Mini Displayport to DVI Adapter

I need to connect a second monitor to my graphics card but it only has 2 mini dps remaining.

pccg has an active adapter for $55

does it make a difference if it's active or passive.

I see lots of mac adapters going for cheap on ebay and such. would these work with pc?

not willing to spend much. any advise is helpful

edit: I have a hd 7850

  • Should only need active for three monitor set up on video card That supports it. I don't think you will need active but I don't want to make that decision for you in case I'm wrong. I think you should look at the manufacturer website about the specifications regarding the graphics card.

  • if you card is AMD, then you need active, not sure about Nvidia.

    • It is a HD 7850. Updated the OP

  • In your case for the 2nd monitor you should only need a passive adapter, these cards support 2 non DP monitors.

Most 7850s should have DVI, HDMI and 2 DP though, which brand is it?

You would need an active adapter for the 3rd (and 4th if there were 4 outputs) monitors.

  • it has a dvi, hdmi and 2 mini dps.
I want to keep my hdmi free for plugging in to the tv from time to time.

    will mac adapters work?

    • +1

I believe a mini displayport to HDMI adapter can always suit

  • incase anyone is wondering. msy had a dvi to mini dp adapter which works great. got eyefinity to work in my monitors without trouble
