  • Can't seem to find the model number. Is it the T4?

  • Are these worth it? Or can I get better for the money? I'm not in any hurry, just want to get something half decent for when we go camping.

while expensive they are absolutely fantastic. we call ours the Day Maker.
incredibly bright, the batteries last a good long time too. they solidly built.
the only down side is the price. the ones that have the ability to focus, is pretty handy. I have about 4 different ones myself.

better than maglites in my opinion.

You call 100 lumens a day maker? Lol.

      • Lol if you think 100 lumens is a day maker, then if you tried this one out, you'd classify it as a sun maker:

The one I linked above, although is rated at 4000lm, however realisticly it is around 1000-1500lm, which is still around 10-15 times brighter.

Or there is Nitecore "Tiny Monster"…..

Maglites have gotten behind on the times, they were the pioneers of the Xenon driven lights but lagged behind after the LED technology became mainstream. They have done a heap of LED ones, but they aren't very good and often overheat.

The maglite Xenon driven lights are still quite popular with medical staff for pupil examinations though due to their uniquely yellow light which won't cause irratation to the patient.

        • This is far better value than the Tiny Monster. Palm sized nuclear fusion:

        • I saw Dr.Chris Brown examining an animal on TV the other day - using his iPhone's LED flash on torch mode just a few inches away from the eye.

I wonder how common that has become among vets? Lots of permanent eye damage done, I suspect.
Lumens aside, lot's of blue-end small wavelength light in the output of most LED emitters, even tinted ones. Very risky.

        • Apples and oranges. The difference in the intensity of light coming from a LED backlit screen, relative to a high output, high current LED emitter, is huge.

I second this. I have one and its absolutely awesome. Everyone on Ozbargain will try and tell you "GET A CREE, IT WILL BE BETTER" but honestly, the optics in this along with the solid construction, long battery life and the fact it wont do weird crap when the batteries start losing voltage. I have several cree torches, but this one without a doubt is the best torch i own.

        • BTW, LED Lenser often uses CREE LED's in their torches.
They switch between using Nichia and CREE LED's.

        • Apologies, by cree torches i meant the no name brands that come up all the time.

          LED Lenser, lol.

Another vote for Led Lenser from me. Excellent build quality and optics. Truthfully, it would be better to buy one (possibly two) really good quality torches like this one than to have 8 or 10 cheaper torches that you get one at a time everytime there's a cheap LED torch on ozbargain. (Ask me how I know)

  • I believe T7 is better - 1 extra AAA battery (adds some weight and size) but brighter.
