Rockford Fosgate Punch vs Prime Speakers - Worth the extra $100?

I've had the guy at Elite Electronics do up some quotes for me for some new speakers and an amp etc.

Prime Package: $419.00
Rockford Fosgate R165-S 6.5" Component Speakers
Rockford Fosgate R16-S 6" Component Speakers
Rockford Fosgate R250X4 2/4 Channel Amplifier
Aerpro MX408 8-Gauge 4-Channel Wiring Kit

Punch Package: $525.00
Rockford Fosgate P165-S 6.5" Split Speakers
Rockford Fosgate P16 6" Coaxial Speakers
Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 4 Channel Amplifier
Aerpro MX408 8-Gauge 4-Channel Wiring Kit

These are both delivered but do would you say the $100 to go from the Prime to the Punch series would be worth it?

  • I personally would go for the Punch package as spec wise the Amp seems better 75 RMS x 4 vs 40 RMS x 4 and for me I would rather just get Coaxial for the back rather than another set of Component speakers. The RMS ratings for the speakers in the Prime are 40 RMS compared to 55 and 60 for the Punch. Back when I was into car audio admittedly many years ago now, I would also try to have an amp with a higher RMS than what the speakers had. Read http://www.doctorproaudio.com/doctor/temas/powerhandling.htm http://www.crownaudio.com/how_much_power.htm as to why, while they talk about home audio the theory is the same for car.
