This is overcomplicating what should be an easy task; to have your pet's name and a contact number engraved onto their collar. As a pet owner, I would be more comforted getting a call from somebody that found my pet, rather than giving them the option to look up my pet's online profile (and that could work against my furry child being returned to me it fell into the wrong hands).

I don't see the point, what is going to get your pet returned quicker - a QR code or your phone number on the tag?

We have our pet's name, address and three phone numbers (my mobile, wifes mobile and home number) on our tags contrary to their claim that a tag can't have alternative contact methods.

On their comparison page they they say you can't upgrade contact information on a standard tag - of course you can - just replace it. They also dismiss microchip implants as costly and ineffective but what if the collar comes off?

As for a pet online profile? Sheesh.

What happens if their website is down for maintenance or other reasons when someone scans the QR code?

The tags are also made of aluminium, after many years of experience with pet tags I have found that stainless steel is the best tag especially if you have two of their collar and they rub against each other. Aluminium is too easily damaged and the QR code will be unreadable.

From their website "What if the finder doesn't have a smartphone or doesn't know QR code?
Each of PetQ ID tag comes with an unique human readable online web page address engraved on them, if the finder doesn't have a smartphone or doesn't know how to scan a qr code, she or he can simply type the URL address on any internet connected device(computer, laptop, tablet) to see the information and contact you immediately."

I'm negging this because I believe this is counter productive and not a product worth purchasing at any price. The poster should also declare their relationship with the company (if any) but as this launched yesterday, it's a new account and they're QLD based like this new service it's a fair bet they are the owner.

theres been a previous QR based dog tag listed several times before and I have commented the same thing..
I have nothing against the QR code being on the tag, but why cant they also (while the tag is there under the engraving machine) also have the ability to add a contact phone number as well..

Hypothetically your dog is found by the 90 year old lady down the road… She sure wont be scanning a QR code or looking up a web page to find the contact number..

These are just a case of a solution for a problem that didnt exist

Unlike costly microchip implants which needs special reader from a VET,

not only are microchips THE best option they are also hardly expensive, cant "fall off" or be easily removed (in the case of ownership disputes)

microchips can also be read by vets as well as animal rescue places like RSPCA/animal welfare

to be discrediting microchipping makes your shitty tag nothing more than snake oil.

      • On one of their types of tags it appears you can put a phone number but it still is really pointless. We have three numbers as I mentioned because what if one isn't working or is out of range? We would want to get our dogs back ASAP if they went missing and a phone number is the best and fastest method as everyone has a phone or access to one.

Any site that says anything against a microchip is ridiculous. Microchips are NOT that expensive, i know someone who does it for ~$30 and honestly i think one of the most superior methods of keeping track of your pet if he or she goes missing. A tag is a must of course, but all you need is a phone number. Not all of this garbage. I have 4 dogs and the amount of tags we have lost would surprise you, they get caught on things. A microchip cannot come out and will also help if someone decides to steal your dog better then a tag is going to, in the case of claiming ownership.
I like how they make a point of privacy is managed… Why do you think only vets have access to the microchip database?

Negging this deal as i agree with Maverick-au, this is a fairly useless product for most people, unless perhaps you work at google and take your pup to work. Most people i think you'll find still wont know how to use QR code…
