Officeworks no longer pricematching with stores without a change of mind return policy

Well, we know how dodgy Officeworks is with pricematching but here is a new one.

In their Lowest Price Guarantee:

What items are excluded from the LPG?

Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)

Included in the service is apparently a change of mind return policy so any store that doesn't have this is disqualified from pricematch.

The backstory:

  • Wife attempted pricematch of Galaxy Tab from Bing Lee at Officeworks in QV.
  • Pricematch refused.
  • I call Officeworks, ask them to pricematch and they say sure. They begin the process of procuring my order when I explain the situation with their QV store.
  • After a couple of minutes, rep comes back and says that Bing Lee has a "no change of mind" return policy.
  • The rep states that they will not pricematch with a store without identical services. Service being a change of mind return policy which excludes many Australian retailers.

This excludes JB Hi-Fi. Rep mentioned Big W does have a change of mind policy.

UPDATE:

I tweeted Officeworks and asked if they pricematched JB Hifi or Bing Lee. They stated:

we would - provided the item is in stock and identical

I went to the Fitzroy Officeworks and they pricematched with no issues.

    This has been OW's policy for ages. Whether they are willing to price match or not is different from store to store.

    You may get lucky. Personally I haven't had any price matches denied in the past year.

      Yeah, will try at Fitzroy. Never had an issue there.

      The issue isn't over a few bucks but it's more the misleading price match guarantee statement on their website and the fact that the rep on the phone was happy to put through the order until I mentioned the issue. It's not like price matching is some obscure feature of Officeworks, it is mentioned in all of their TV ads.

      Wife was at Officeworks when I called plus she had gift cards. I wonder if I can pricematch and buy with a gift card on the phone then pickup at QV? ;)

    Their response:

    So again, contradicting.

    Went to the Fitzroy location and they did pricematch, no questions asked. I'm still keen to get Officeworks to have a clear and consistent price match policy across all of their stores as well as their call centre.
