Vaya plans changing March 1 - don't know if you must purchase SIM card today

Hi all,

For those leaving Live Connected I'd like to also point out that the Vaya $18 power plan will be changing on the 1st of March to $20 a month with less data (1.5 GB to 1 GB) and calls ($650 to $500).

The lady on the phone said if you sign up to the month-to-month plan now you won't be instantly converted into the $20 plan on 1 March (but note they have been wrong in the past). Who knows when??

IF this is true then they say you have to buy your sim card from Vaya right now at the latest so that you ensure enough time for the 2-3 day activation (since there are only 28 days in February and that day happens to be a Friday). They also said you can ring to ensure that your old Live Connected account details were entered correctly.

I know we all hate Vaya right now but I understand some medium level users can't settle for ALDI/Amaysim pre-paid usage levels. Right now you can still get the first month free with Vaya which makes it worth joining if they don't change $18 plans instantly. Otherwise, Amaysim may turn out cheaper (with $10 referral on OzBargain https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/amaysim_referrals) for light users once they purchase a 12 month data pack for $99 or Vaya's $16 plan may be cheaper if they only expect a few 10 minute phone calls a month.

  • I am one of those customers on the old $11 LC plan that got that email earlier in the month about the changes. I moved to the Vaya $18 month on month plan earlier this week.

My main concern is data being charged in 1MB blocks, so going to see how it goes in the first month and if I don't like it I'm going to port out to the $20 Telechoice kogan offer.

  • dumb question here, if you sign up for the $18 plan on a 24 month contract can they still change your plan?

    • No… as you are still on contract

  • So any idea when they might force the change?

The 1.5GB to 1GB is the bigger concern to me. I certainly get stung a bit by their 1MB increments comparing against Android's data counter.

  • Thanks for sharing this.

From the Whirlpool forums I was aware the $18 plan would cease to be offered in March, but not that it was start of March.

My 24mths with LC ends on 24/2 so I had planned to move to Vaya after that date. So I've gone ahead and signed up for 24mths with Vaya. Hopefully SIM will arrive in time so I can activate by 28th.

Now to start looking for a 4G phone bargain…

  • this never happened.
