Wisdom teeth removal, horizontal and with Bupa insurance sydney

Dear OzB

After a few days of chronic pain with my teeth this morning I've received the advice that I'll need specialist treatment as they are growing horizontally.

I have Bupa insurance and looking to see if anyone else has had this done recently. I would travel within Sydney and live in Carlingford

a - What health cover did you have and what was the gap.
b- How long did you have to wait to get it done.
c - Who it was performed the procedure and any feedback on the process.

Thanks heaps

I had mine done, I can't remember the exact fee's but from memory my health fund covered the whole cost of the day hospital where it was done (which was around $900) and medicare covered part of the cost for the surgeon and anesthetist. It could have been cheaper if I shopped around I guess but cheapest isn't always best when it comes to health even if it is routine surgery.

The wait wasn't long at all, I was scheduled for in a months time and then after a week there was a cancellation so I took the spot. You won't have to wait long.

The process isn't something to look forward to if you haven't had much medical stuff done before, it was my first surgery and the first time going under general but in hindsight it wasn't that bad; I sat in a chair, got stuck with a needle, woke up with a swollen face and ate soup for a few weeks.

  • Don't forget to have somebody video you afterwards while you're still under the influence of the meds.
