$129 10" tablet device from Target down from $200... good deal?

Hey guys, I just saw this in the Target catalogue. Is this a good deal? It's running Android.

  • They can't be making that much money with a 10' screen, right?

For a 10 foot screen, it's an absolute steal, but how are you going to get it home? :)

      • Roll it up and throw it into the trunk of your car? Easy.

based on the very detailed and specific info you have given there, its probably a magnificent deal.

Alright, here's a .pdf file of it: http://catalogues.target.com.au/catalogue/target-catalogue--…

    Go to pg 12.

"WAS $199. 10" multi-touch screen. 16GB internal storage. Android 4.2 operating system. Front and back facing camera. Exclusive to Target. This offer not available at Target Country stores unless stated otherwise."

Would this be good to read .pdf files on?

    • Any Android tablet will be fit for reading PDF documents, many different apps available.

  • You should post the link, if you want advice.

That is a generic Chinese tablet, that I have seen go under many different brand names. They work adequately for the price, and at least it should be easy to return them to Target, if they become faulty. All of these generic tablets are much more likely to develop faults, than the brand names.

  • Alright, thanks!

I just want to use it for reading .pdf files.

  • I haven't been able to find a more detailed list of specs.

These Chinese brandless tablets usually skimp on battery and screen first. If you're just using it on the throne, you can do worse but battery life will be terrible and it will get worse, so I can't recommend these if you want to travel with it. If it uses a resistive touchscreen (many do), avoid like the plague. It means you'll always have to use the included stylish or jab your finger for anything to register. Also worth noting is that many of these tablets cannot access the Google Play Store out of the box.

  • I just want to use it indoors to be able to read and highlight text rom .pdf files.

  • I want to use the stylus so that's fine by me.

Does it come with a stylus pen?

  • Anyone?

    • Why dont you head to a Target store and test out the product your self, rather than relying on other people to do your lazy work. Or even phone Target to see if it comes with a stylus.

  • Thanks for posting the link, but I'm wanting the 10" one not the 7" model.

It looks good for the price.

Does anyone know how much profit the company would be making? It can't be much…?

    • They dropped the price from 199 to 149 and finally to 129. According to whirlpool forums anyway.

They are most likely clearing out obsolete stock at cost price. I guess most people by now would have realised that cheap no-brand tablets are usually not worth buying because they tend to be short lived and have poor battery capacities.

  • I just want to use it for reading .pdf files. Would it be up to the task?

  • Hey guys, I just plugged the device into the wall to charge. This is my first tablet device. Are the specs decent?

How long will the battery last in terms of its entire lifetime? A year or longer?

Here are the specs from the manual:

    OS: Android 4.2

CPU: ARM cortex A20 dual core 1.2ghz processor

    RAM: DDR3 1GB (3D Accelerator possible for 4D games)

Display: 10.1" TFT 1024x600 capacitive touch panel

    USB Port/Audio Port/Micro SD card

    Battery: 3.7V Li-Polymer 6000mAh

    • If the specs are correct, the battery is Amazing for a tablet. How long does it last (like a day or two)?

      • I highly doubt 6000mAh is the real rating, Chinese electronics aren't known for their accurate battery capacities.

Assume capacity is 1/4 to 1/2 of what's rated.
