Diablo General - New Update and Prospective Expansion

Update 4/03/2014: From today onwards until the release of Reaper of Souls, Blizzard is offering all players an additional +50% on their current XP yields. This is multiplicative and applies to whatever XP bonuses you currently have. So for example, because I'm sitting at 334.0% XP bonus due to my game difficulty and items the event boosts it up to 551.0%.

Today marks a significant overhaul in Diablo III's mechanics and gameplay. With content beyond the scope of this area to discuss, I will link the community to a series of patch notes and useful information in relation to these events.

So does anyone still play? I was a veteran from day 1, so I've kept my head down since the Error 37 days to the "Double It" memes and powered through til now.

What are you looking forward to? Will you pick up this game again and give it a go to see if the changes warrant you to surrender more money to Blizzard? Let us know.

I'm going to miss the days of Whirlwind Barbarian, but nearing the end I started to look forward to the new builds which were showcased on YouTube, such as this one. It's no Necromancer, but it does go to show that there have been some significant overhauls with this patch.

  • D3 lore and stale builds bored me. And this is coming from someone who has spent countless hours playing D1 and D2, farming bosses and getting my chars leveled up in ladder servers.

Their crafting system (the weapon smith) was a joke.

The buy items for real money was the final nail.

With the AH gone, and classes skills etc re-designed, I might give it another shot. But most likely I will grab it for the PS4…as I might get some friends to play there along with me, since all my PC friends have washed their hands off all Blizzard products.

    • I've given the game a solid 8 hours since the creation of this post, and I would urge all people on the fence who currently already have the game to give it another go. They've revamped the items and drops and given you the chance to replay the same quests done previously, meaning you can have a better chance at claiming better gear.

But my opinion speaks from a gear/farm-orientated playstyle, my interests might be different to others.

      • Does it still drop Witch Doctor items which has boost for Demon Hunter skills? :|
        I'll patch the game today.

        • There's a concept called "Smart Drops" now in Loot 2.0, you can read up about it here. if you do get the chance to play it today let us know what you think.

I feel that build diversity has been increased with all the new items / skillchanges, I'm no longer perma-archon but at least I can switch it up as a cold-mage.

        • Did play for sometime yesterday…definitely a huge improvement. And was back to how I enjoyed Diablo as a dungeon crawler loot gathering game.

Got invited to an AU clan Dropbear while I was playing. :P

Hmmm… Reaper of Souls it is then :\ :)

        • Good for you. Personally I'm finding enjoyment in the game again as well, but I'm holding off until later to purchase RoS. I've still got a month to go before the expansion pack, I'd want to make sure that what I'm feeling now is actual enjoyment for the game rather than its honeymoon period.

  • +6

    Diablo 3, that was a good week…

  • +1

Agree with above, the game was fun at the start but got old real quick especially when every build was a derivative of MOAR CRITS.

Having said that, recently got back in to the game as Blizzard Wizard became marginally viable (but more importantly, lots of fun) and AH is so flooded with Legendaries that it's pretty cheap to gear up with Gold.

  • Played it on day 2, got on, was a good start, average ping of ~220ms playing single player and constantly having this fluctuate up, was not impressed.

    Have not played since.

Also I went out to specially buy that instead of waiting for my shipped copy, some 4WD ending up running over my front right panel/light. So I was kinda pissed that D3 ended up costing me $540, that wasn't in its favor either.

Edit: Those patch notes sound interesting, maybe when Telstra finishes their "Illawarra Region Upgrade" which has been going on since the 14/2 and will be going on until potentially 15/3 and my net breaks the current 666 kilobits its currently stuck at, I might download and give it a whirl.
