Fly 2 adults & 2 kids Sydney to London June- July 2014

Hi there- Can anyone give advice on how to get the best flights/ deals to fly the family sydney to London around June 22nd and returning July 21st? I'm getting frightened by the prices. Needs to be one stop and as short as possible too. I thought I was on to something with Garuda but he flight seems to have disappeared. All advice appreciated. Thanks!

What's an upper limit that you're considering?

If you fly out on 24th or 25th of June and return on July 19th, Vietnam Airlines is pricing at decent fares between $1650 - $1700.

You could also fly out on a budget airline to Singapore (Jetstar or scoot) and then catch a British Airways flights to LHR (Sin-LHR prices at around $1250). That way, it's only one stop on your journey, although you have to re-check in once in Singapore.

    • Im trying to get the flights to line up via singapore (a great idea thanks) but cant seem to do it. Availability seems to be limited…

  • And how is it possible for Expedia to do a Thai Airlines adult ticket $400 cheaper than when I go directly to the Thai airlines website? Very confusing…

  • Thanks for all the suggestions. Very helpful

  • Don't panic and book one of the cheaper Asian airlines with lower service levels and multiple stopovers. Notwithstanding that prices have been going up in recent years - you will get something well within your budget if you hold your nerve.

I've flown Syd-Lon twice in the last three years in June and managed to book with full service airlines with single stop-overs for $1200 (Qatar Air out of Melbourne) and $1500 (Singapore) per person. That makes a big difference with kids and multiple stops or less than optimum flight paths can turn a 23 hours trip into a 30+ hour one.

Keep an eye on the travel section here, as well as doing regular experiments with Kayak, Zuji, Expedia and Skyscanner. You'd be amazed at how often one of them gets access to specials the others aren't showing. Good luck.

  • Try AIRNZ also do a fare check on kayak.com & momondo.com
