Kogan 55" 4K TV $999

I think this just recently appeared on the website. It says shipping April-30, usual Kogan thing.

It's 55", 4K, I think for PC use (if anyone was actually contemplating it) it's limited to 30Hz @ 4K which was probably expected for this price.

Anyway, pretty cool to see. I just wish they'd bring out a 32-40" TV/Monitor now that Amazon don't currently ship Seiki to Australia.

Thoughts?

  • Link?

  • So when it says shipping from April 30th, does that mean a local warehouse or their overseas warehouse?

    • Goods and transactions all exist overseas and are shipped are they not?

Wasn't that the reason he started the website so he could run everything overseas for less and not pay the high taxes that Australian companies had to pay? As such everything has to take place overseas? (if someone could clarify that would be appreciated).

      • I was under the impression his TVs are shipped locally. If he is importing it, he will have to pay the GST.

If he is shipping it from overseas on individual units, it will take over 5 weeks to ship it here.

  • quality for a desktop?

    • I imagine it would be nice quality, the real question to ask is whether 55" suits you?

I would prefer the the 39" Seiki but it doesn't ship to Australia any more. 55" put on a wall further away could work but then you'd probably find text too difficult to read. I don't really get Kogan's logic here, there is limited use (today) for 4K in such a large size, 4K's biggest appeal to most is non-tv usage.

The 30-40" market would surely be hotter. And I'd have no qualms about paying $999 for a smaller display.

  • Sorry guys for not posting the link, was very tired last night when I posted this (got no sleep the previous night).

    • Interesting. For the price there would be a few takers no doubt. Strange that it appears to promote smart TV features but does not list either having built in wifi or LAN connection, or even wifi with adapter.
