Travel insurance for a friend from Indonesia who will visit Australia

Hi all, I have a friend coming next week from Indonesia to visit us for 2 months, and I like to get travel insurance for him. Anybody experience with this? I got some info that it cannot be bought in Australia as he is not living here… He tried to find it in Indonesia but no success, any ideas? cheers

  • There's plenty of insurance providers in Indonesia - has your friend actually been to a travel agent? Else try the major underwriters instead of going to Aussie sites / third parties. Lloyds, Alliance, etc all offer a range of policies for a range of nationalities.

  • Keomorodok, I saw your reply but it has dissapeared…. can you post the info again please?
Thanks Pennae, will follow it up,cheers

    • keomorodok was a fake account, that someone had created solely for the purpose of giving you their referral ID.

As Pennae says, he must be able to get it in Indonesia - you typically can't commence travel insurance prior to the journey beginning. Also, he would have his medical history and you do not. Best to get him to do it.

      • Oops, meant to say "can't commence travel insurance after the journey beginning".

  • Have you looked at World Nomads? I'm pretty sure they'll cover your needs as they cover people from 150 countries and are Lonely Planets travel insurance partner.

  • Hi original nomad.thanks for that tip. Yes i was succesful with them.easy online .took 5 minutes and a fair price.cheers

  • I think American International Group - or AIG - operates in most Asian countries - I know they do travel insurance for Korean residents.

    Here is their Indonesian website:

    Global site:

I'm sure they would have policies for Indonesians.

Pretty difficult to get insurance once they arrive in Australia so purchasing before departure is a good idea.

    Other global providers could include:

    and

not sure if Mondial are in Indonesia - but worth a search:
