Computer repair- Sydney

Hey Guys,

Purchased a HP folio ultrabook (hp1016t I think), and noticed a couple of days ago that the top of the screen started to slightly flicker each couple of minutes. This has now progressively got worse and now the screen starts up as normal and before typing my login details it has a pinkish tinge and then goes white after few seconds.

It works fine with external monitor (connected by HDMI cable to TV) but wondering if it seems like a terminal issue or maybe a case of loose connection (hopeful).

Should I be taking it to a computer repair shop or just man up and buy a new one (I bought it about 18-20 months I think)?

Any recommendations of cheap computer repair shops in Sydney CBD? I dont mind heading down Haymarket area if the price warrants it :)

  • Self repair may be possible. If you can find disassemly instructions from the HP page, you can troubleshoot the problem yourself.

Usually the pink tinge indicates a bad LCD ribbon cable or perhaps some kind of corrosion or dust has settled into the ZIF socket.

    Reseating the connector may help.

  • yeah if lucky its a loose or damaged cable

i had a HP that did the same the HP repair guy replaced the whole screen cover cable etc. so it can get expensive

ie. if it wasnt under warranty i wouldnt fix it
