Is it just me, or does everyone seem to have a tendency to really really either hate on a post, OR they try and like say something negative about it? Honestly, like is it just me? Because I find it rather annoying and prefer them just to not say anything at all, and just have a negative for all I care. Really contemplating on just cruising OzBargain instead of contributing any further.

Thoughts everyone? (Yes, negative feedback or other opinions are welcome.)

    <just not saying anything at all> :)

I actually have had this thought a bit over the last couple of weeks. It seems like it has gotten worse for some reason. Now I'm usually in a bad mood after leaving the comment section.

Having said that, there are still the good Samaritan Ozbargainers around that leave discount codes or genuine helpful advice in the comments.

I think the worst thing is when you go into the comments of a deal for something like beats, so good soy milk or anything from catchoftheday and almost every comment is negative.

It's understandable that a lot of people have issues with cotd but ultimately it makes people think twice about posting a deal for them.

It would be great if we had a forum for experiences with companies and deals that are posted have like a link to peoples experiences so we can just focus on the product itself.

E.g you post a deal for cotd and near the tags it displays a link to a forum thread about cotd experiences.

    • Soy after taste is really over powering though…

  • @ Sharks:

I did that. I was almost destroyed for it. I also posted a scoopon for a photography studio and was mass negged. On the issues of manufacturer issues. Just because they didn't understand the REAL costs a Photography studio is. Like they were angry that a professional studio was charging $200 for portraits and stuff. I myself personally did some shots at a studio. Was about $1.3k for each. Not really surprising to me.

But I always end up angry lately. And i'm really getting annoyed to the point where I just sit on OzBargain instead of posting any longer. Bad idea?

It's sad for the community….. but a great many people just don't post any more because of this.
I personally won't post until this ridiculous negging system is removed…. what was once a useful tool, has no useful purpose at all now.

    • maybe it needs to be turned into a reddit style algorithm? Where votes are not linked to the user.

      • Isn't the votes linked to the user in reddit? If you click the users name it has link karma and comment karma.

I'd rather not OzB go that way just encourages circlejerking etc, I like a good laugh but it will escalate.

        • True, although i was referring to link karma not comment karma.

        • It works for both

      • We are trying a bit of both. For comment votes you don't see who have voted, and we tried the same with deal votes earlier as well but that didn't work out. Once you can hide behind the anonymity, some people don't feel that they need to act responsibly. Linking negative votes to users introduce a bit of accountability.

I don't agree with removing negging system either as @andy has suggested. The problem is with the unjustified negativity — you'll get that regardless whether there's a vote button or not.

indeed…. however there would not be a physical impact on the deal or the poster, such as reducing deal visibility to users, impacting on a users ability to post, often unwarranted damage to a retailer or product's reputation, bans, etc

  • There are haters everywhere - you just have to ignore them. It's not too bad on OzBargain compared to other places.

  • Like alot of internet forums, it can be a bit of a game to poke fun at each other or the deal. Alot of the humor is actually quite witty and I often find it a highlight of my visits, unless of course I find a good bargin which is the true reason for visiting. But yeah some people are just jerks I guess, and as the old saying goes, dont feed the trolls! I have read lots of people complaining about being neg voted and by the time I get round to reading it they are positive voted, but complaining about the votes is a bit silly i think.
