I'm so disappointed at Opporto's version of the cheese steak. If you know of a joint anywhere in Australia, that sells a decent Philly cheese steak sandwich/sub, please tell!

Why don't you make it yourself? It's pretty simple and essentials are get sliced meat (shabu shabu easiest to get), provolone cheese and a roll. Extras are up to you.
It doesn't really exist here.
I have been surprised to find some other American foods here like fried green tomatoes, jalapeno poppers or chicken and waffles. I would have thought Philly Cheese steak would be here before those.

PJ's over at West End is good. I'd include photos but I don't have them on me. Generous portions and a very solid serving of chilli fries should you choose to have them.
Beyond that maybe Snag Stand? But honestly PJ's hands down.
That sounds good! I'm serious about my cheese steaks. I was really prepared to take my next short vacation in another state if I had to.
How much are they?
It's blurry, but here's a list of prices of their menu late November last year. It's blurry, but you should be able to make out the average cost of a cheesesteak.
I frequently supplement my visits to this place with a bottle of Hank's and a tower of these. It's either the onion rings or the chilli fries, either or are great.
It's a small joint, you'll miss it if you're not careful.
Prepared to take a visit to another state, but not if the sandwich I'm buying is too expensive - now that's the ozbargainer spirit!
Coffee club!
Is the Coffee Club still really expensive? They don't have many in Sydney so haven't been for years, but when I lived in Brisbane I always found the Coffee Club to be extremely overpriced.
Yeh I've had PJ's at West End a couple of times. It's pretty good.
You'll hate me for this, but the Abercrombie Hotel in Sydney did an amazing Philly cheese steak burger, but they closed down last month :(
They also did deep fried Gaytimes!
Roasties at Wellington Point (Brisbane) is an American BBQ place. They do a philly cheesesteak and heaps of other American BBQ type foods.
I'm no philly chese steak expert, but don't mind the one at Subway. Haven't tried Oporto's new one. (Still havn't gotten over their branch out from chicken!)

Local kebab place does kebab dogs with cheese which reminded me of Philly cheese steak. Maybe try your luck at a kebab place and tweak to taste?
Side note - don't quite get why Philly cheese steak is a 'thing'. Had one in Philadelphia a few years back, didn't think it was anything special. Maybe I bought it from a dud place shrug
