Sick kitten, pet store refusing to assist

So I bought a Kitten for $600 from Pet's Galore in Toowoomba a little over a week ago

The kitten had a 48 hour health guarantee

It was sneezing/coughing on the way home and continued when it arrived home, 2 days later we took it to the vet (as quickly as we could)

It only sneezed once when it was there for a few minutes and the vet just put it on antibiotics saying he couldn't find anything wrong

The kitten has gotten worse since then with quite bad coughing and sneezing fits

The pet store owner is refusing to assist stating that we didn't get it the proper help (we took it to the vet they told us to go to) (the owner also abused my mother stating that she should have put the kitten before my dying grandmother)

Does the pet store really have no obligation to help pay for treatment for the animal they sold us?

Will be taking her back to the vet tomorrow

Also here is a video of her coughing, if anyone might have any idea on how to help her that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sorry to hear about the little fella. I have never bought anything from a pet shop, for many reasons, so I'm not sure what their obligations are, but I would try another vet.

Some reviews for this particular shop aren't good at all http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/pets-galore/toowoomba-c…

    • +1

Thanks for the reply. She is a purebred tonkinese and couldn't find another one available within a month around my area otherwise certainly wouldn't have bought from there. Quite a disgusting shop

Thanks for that link, interesting to see I'm not the only unhappy customer

  • Non-human animals - particularly those living in modern human environments - can have, or develop allergies or sensitivities by way of chemical exposure, in the same way that humans themselves can.

Could be anything - perfume/aftershave, any number of different substances in makeup, shampoo, conditioner used by you or yours. Could also be detergent residue in your clothing, substances like formaldehyde from the glue in car/house carpets, mdf furniture etc.,etc.

If you care about the kitten, you may have a long process of 'elimination/re-introduction into the environment' scientific sleuthing ahead of you.

Or the cat might just have a bug in its system, and be fine in a few days.

If it survives to adulthood, kindly don't let it eat any native wildlife in and around The Darling Downs.

    • Thanks for your input Tas. We have thought about the allergies, taking her back off the wet foods to see how she does. Guess will take a while to figure it out if it is allergies

She is living inside with a netted area on our verandah so she won't be getting to any wildlife

  • I used to breed Bengals and it looks like she's trying to bring up a furball. But it's unusual for it to last days like you're talking about. Could be a combination of things unfortunately. 80% of kittens have cat flu and i think she's displaying those symptoms as well. you could try those furball formulas to help her bring it up if thats the case (but speak to your vet about it first). Good luck though! :)

    • I have an older Bengal cat too :) Originally I thought it was a furball as well but like you mentioned it's been going on for a while and nothing ever came out

She has had her cat flu vaccinations so hopefully not that but you never know I guess. Thank you :)

  • I am part of a Facebook group that has been started in the past few days to shut down pets galore Toowoomba because of the state of the animals and their well being. They are needing as much evidence as possible of that these animals are sick and they need people to come forward with their experiences.
Yours would be greatly assist in this…

Hope to have your help and I hope your little kitten is better or on her way :)

    Thankyou

    • Renaming that group would go a long way toward increasing its credibility …. with a name like that it comes accross simply as a hate group ….. and possibly gives the owners of the store reasonable cause to ask Facebook to have it removed.
