Any experience with Aust Post Express Courier International?

In a nutshell:
Sent some documents to a friend in Alexandria in Egypt last Wednesday afternoon, by Australia Post Express Courier International.
AP indicated delivery would take 2-4 days to Egypt.
As I write it is now early morning (5am) of the 6th day in Egypt(not counting Wednesday when I dropped it at the PO)and the package has still not been delivered.
Tracking is showing that it arrived around 8pm Sunday night in Egypt (5am Monday here in Melbourne)and that's where it is stuck with no further updates.

I have not spoken to AP as yet.

I am sort of guessing that they have catchall T's & C's which absolve them from all responsibility!!

On the back of the Con Note, it says:
Delivery - Australia Post will endeavour to provide delivery in accordance with regular delivery schedules but shall not be liable for any delay in pick-up, transportation or delivery of goods regardless of the cause of such delay.

Does that preclude me from asking for a refund I wonder!

Anyone else had any experience of using this service and/or getting a refund for non-performance?

OMG do not use this service. Something similar just happened to me. They said it would take 4-5 days for my package to arrive. I check tracking 7 days later and it was still showing that it was in Melbourne! When I called to ask them about it, they said it has already left Melbourne and tried to blame it on the overseas post.

TLDR; Took over 3 weeks for my documents to arrive. They couldn't locate it in between those days. They are giving me a refund but haven't received it yet.

  • What they fail to mention that not only does it have to travel from your lodging point to the Gateway facility (which is usually that night/early morning) then is stored for 48 hours for security reasons before it gets procesed and sent.

Once the parcel/letter leaves the gateway facility Auspost cant do anything more about it, its upto whatever logistics network they use and the receiving postal system.

  • Aus post international 'express' is a rip-ff, I believe Australia has no real equivalent to EMS express that many countries have. Instead 'express' is actually priority registered post. The most insulting part was when I was forced to use it 2 years ago as it was their 'fastest' solution, it costed me $45 to send two pieces of paper, and as mentioned above, no, it didn't arrive in 4-5 days.

Hilarious that I can send 1.3kg for $30 where I live now, and arrive in Melbourne on average in 2-3 days.

  • Update: The package was delivered to my friend at 1.30pm Tuesday (10.30pm Tues Melbourne Time, so around 6½ days from the time I lodged it at AP (3pm Wednesday prior).

Just wondering if I should approach AP for at least a partial refund on the $59.50 I paid for a service I didn't get.

    • If they give you some sort of guarantee I would give it a go. Their regular domestic express service will compensate you with another express post envelope. Not terribly useful but at least you get something back.

  • I reckon you probably won't be able to recoup anything from AP, as I believe for the so called "express" or even EMS Australia service, only "guarantees" delivery to the point where the parcel or letter reaches the local postal service, then AP will tell you that's out of their control and delivery date/times are an estimate blah blah blah. We have experienced similar issues with AP a few times where inexperienced staff sent documents via AP instead of courier services. If you want to send documents, look for some smaller courier companies that "resells" services from the big guys at a cheaper rate.
