DIY Power Boards

Hey guys,

I really do not like cables to show in my house and after moving houses I have a lot of cables that do not fit anymore. Their cable is too small or too big, the plug should be L shaped for some of them etc. Is there a place to purchase power boards without cables? and power plugs (still without cables)? and buy some cable to go between them?

I simply want a 3m, L shaped 6 socket power board and I really cannot find it. I used to take a 15 minutes tram, buy some boards, some plugs and some m of cable and just build my own. Total cost the equivalent of 7 AUD for something like 3 power boards and the result was a perfect fit for my needs.

Where do you recommend I buy the components Sydney (or with delivery).

  • You can buy electrics at bunnings or masters. They won't have powerboards without the cables though, only fronts for powerpoints… which you could mount in a hobby box yourself.

It would be cheaper and easier just to buy a few 6 (or 4) point power boards…and use every second plug because your device sockets are too wide. If that's not long enough, plug in an extenstion cord.

Any electrician can install a couple of extra power points into your wall. Just be aware you may be limited due to the number of circuits on that side of the house.

Keep in mind your household insurance might be invalidated if your house burns down as a result of your creation.

diy wiring is illegal in australia. legal in uk, usa, nz. illegal in austalia

    • DIY Hardwired connections are illegal.

DIY plug-ins are legal. But make sure you know what you're doing

      • Yep. Make sure you know what you are doing. Bunnings can supply the cable etc. Get an old powerboard and butcher it. Don't daisy chain the powerboards or put too much to one wall plug in the house, otherwise things will blow and possibly burn. What you are describing seems quite logical.

he is talking about modifying the plug. i don't think the above statement is correct
