  • As someone who visit dog park every day and saw how dogs age differently with different diets, I do not recommend any dog food with grain as top ingredient.
Here's the ingredients list for the ' real meat' adult one: Wholegrains and cereal by–products (including wheat, corn, rice ) meat by–products (including beef, mutton, poultry), fats and oils (including tallow and/or vegetable oil), salt, essential minerals (including calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, phosphoric acid, choline chloride, zinc sulphate monohydrate, ferrous sulphate monohydrate, copper sulphate, potassium iodide), vegetables (including peas, beans), preservatives, food colourings and essential vitamins (including vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin A, pantothenic acid, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, niacin, vitamin D3, vitamin B6, folic acid

    • And to add insult to injury it doesn't actually contain anything other than offcuts.

While top of the range dog food is a lot more expensive (e.g. around $100/12-15kg, Canidea, Earthborn Holistic Primitive Natural etc.), there are those that offer better value and are actually still not too bad for your dog (e.g. Blackhawk $100/20kg, Costco's Nature's Domain range $49/15kg).

p/s: You also feed your dog more of cheap dog food than premium ones, so the comparison is not direct. For example for a 3 month old 5kg puppy, you'd be feeding 85g of Pedigree vs 55g of Earthborn)

    • sounds yum!

  • The Big W price on this Pedigree Pal is excellent.

My dogs do just fine with a big "base" of Pedigree Pal (or similar) dry dog food, that I then enrich with varying additional things. Sometimes chicken necks or hearts, sometimes other meat off-cuts, today was a cheese omelette with vegetables. Sometimes a can of tuna. Human food leftovers are a doggie favourite. 75% dry dog food, 25% add-ins.

    • Please don't tell me you include onions in those vegetables….

      • +1

        of course no onions!
