Surprise from Telstra

I am currently with Telstra for internet/home phone line and pay $72 a month for this package (which gives me 50 gig a month). I've been looking around for better deals but find it hard to a company in my area that is cheaper. So I called Telstra yesterday and said to them I'm out of contract now and wondering what they can do for me to get me something cheaper. Without any push from me, the operator offered me $10 off per month and no contract, which I found surprising from Telstra.

Thought I'd just pass this on, as I'm sure there are others in the same situation as me and saving $120 a year is better than a kick in the you know what.

I'm on the old $59 unlimited TPG ADSL2+ plan with Homephone bundle. Very happy with their service so far.

I've had TPG for around 10 years now. While the service is mostly good, if anything does go wrong (long-term speed drops, frequent disconnections), their customer service is virtually more than useless. You'll need to know how to fix things yourself.

That's where Whirlpool comes in. Fortunately they have active reps there who will respond to your requests, though they aren't always online.

  • I'm with Telstra as well for phone/internet and do this every year. If you're lucky you can sometimes get both a loyalty discount (what you received) and a recontracting discount. I remember one year, my plan was $60/mth and I got a $40/month discount…
