Whats the BEST freebie you have ever scored? Time to brag!

As in something for nothing - or almost nothing :)

I went for a info session from a bunch of tourism providers who had grouped together to tell locals about their area.

No hard pressure sales or anything (it really was as advertised) - and they laid on wine & nibbles.

Plus we scored a $100 voucher which we used for a nice hotel.

Cost $0

  • That's nice :) Although you do need to do something, i.e. go to the info session and listen through the sales talk, so it's more like a reward than freebie to me :)

Most freebies I got were from trade shows but they are mostly trivial stuff like caps, T-shirt, crappy USB keys, etc.

  • Scotty - you are right of course ;P

but surprisingly it was interesting and of course the wine helped - it was also a weekday night so no dramas attended

I actually forgot to add they gave everyone a $20 voucher - so we actually had $140

there were plans to repeat the info nights for other destinations.. but I never saw them offered again! :(

I am just curious if someone has managed to score big??

Oh and tshirts are not to be sniffed at! :)

    • tshirts are not to be sniffed at

Aren't they just marketing material so you'll become a free advertisement for them? Wait until we give out FREE1 OzBargain T-shirts. Bwahahahah!!

I did get some $50 cash in envelope doing surveys, but I guess that does not count because that would be "too much work".

      1. the only requirement is that you wear that in all public places.

      • I will so where it everywhere… hell make a bikini and I will wear it everywhere. Bring it scotty.

  • +1 for free ozbargain t-shirts!!!

    Best freebie for me,
    Hotelclub - $80 USD free credit 2008 -> Updated - thanks Mastablasta :)
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7700

Got a free 1 night stay in a central Sydney hotel with hot breakfast included.

Munch sandwiches fed me for a couple of weeks
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/6601

In the early days of Ozbargain, I won the weekly contest twice.

Also, cant find the deal but basically the old $29 cap, min spend $20, $10 credit a month on THREE. So $10 for a $29 cap plus free phone, although its purple ;).

  • Neil actually ya - that hotelclub thing was great

I scored two nights in melbourne with that deal!

and as for the tee shirts - dare I say it - there would have to be some reference to COTD (ducks) ;P

  • Outside of OzBargain the best thing I probably scored was a voucher, it wasn't worth much but I was actually going to use the voucher. Generally when I get vouchers I never use them as they don't interest me.

  • I just remembered, got a free slab of beer, BBQ tongs, and 2 bottles of BBQ sauce for doing a survey for The Soup.

mines not as great as having a free night at a hotel but…
signed up for some dilmah tea promotion
ended up with a few thousand tea bags (id guess 10 thousand+) in different flavours lol
gave lots to friends and family
someone mustve been in the fields for a long time for me to have two huge boxes of tealeaves at my doorstep
never need to buy tea again :D have been drinking it daily since it arrived

  • We scored an almost new car from a friend, because they couldn't make it to our wedding, and we're moving overseas. Admittedly it's a Camry, but atleast it's the touring edition.

Probably the only other thing is a couple massive boxes of little Tupperware containers - they were handing them out on the street individually in Brisbane, a mate and I asked if we could take a couple boxes ea (250 in ea box) :)

I was in (the late) Theos bottleshop in Neutral Bay one night several years ago when a stranger came up & asked me if I drank Guinness. I week later I was in the city for some consumer focus group, drinking Guinness all evening & answering questions about which potential ads I did or didn't like.

When it was over (& I was quite loaded) they gave me $50 cash. I've been a guinness drinker ever since. Had never tried it before that night. Must have been fate at work.

I came to Oz in 1978 and the first weekend here I took my 3 young boys to the local oval where a game of cricket was in progress. Nearby was a group of blokes taking turns to bring a tray of beers back from the adjacent pub. One guy came back with 1 beer too many, looked over and saw me and said "Here mate wanna beer". I love this country!

  • Someone posted a deal with Accor Frequent traveller which Wife and I signed up for and so did my mom & dad. Last year Accor reduced their points redemption in the US so we got 4 nights stay $US240 (about $A300, then) at motel 6 which was reasonable accommodation. The vouchers were ok as the surnames matched.

Timing being everything, as the points were due to expire 3 days before we got the vouchers issued.
