  Great book. Good to see that the author actually does not recommend (and recommends against the use of) registry cleaners.

    Registry cleaners are fine, as long as you don't blindy go click, click through the options and review what they are doing, and make sure they have backups or recover strategy i.e they should only be used by those experienced in end user support and who know how to recover from anything that happens as a result.

      Yes but I wouldn't use any of the optimizing software that advertise that regular cleaning of the registry = Good for your Pc.

      You should only clean (better word: tweak) your registry when there is actually a problem, and it should be done surgically and with careful deliberation. However a lot of these cleaner apps are usually designed for a batch delete operation, and people often use it in a way similar to an anti-malware program.

  What's the issue with Registry Cleaners? It's A Necessary Part of PC Maintenance.

    They get a lot of things wrong. You have to explicitly review and approve every change it wants to make, or it'll stuff something important up.

    It is definitely not a necessary part of PC maintenance, the only time you will need to 'clean' the registry is if you are encountering an obscure error.

  Perhaps attempt looking at several PC Websites and not just blindly copying/pasting the first thing you find, also try reading the link you post to the end.
  To be fair it's one persons opinion, mine has 15 years industry experience and CCleaner is beneficial for the average Windows PC.

    Yeah CCleaner is beneficial at reclaiming disk space but the registry cleaner in it isn't required for anything and isn't terribly beneficial, i'd recommend sticking to the file deletion tab and not hitting the registry one unless you have some sort of obscure error re-installing a program or opening a file or something of the sorts.

  Rarely (if ever) have I encountered an issue using a registry cleaner (CCleaner and Advanced System Care mainly). Not to say there won't be a first time, but nothing of note to date.
