Welcome new moderator - teaearlgrey!

We have one new member on the OzBargain moderator team from this week —

teaearlgrey

aka Jean-Luc.

teaearlgrey has been with us for just over a year, but has done quite a lot of contribution to the OzBargain community. For the past 12 months OzBargain had 2 mods from NSW and 2 from Victoria, and it's great to have one Queenslander joining us. Let's see what other states need representative :)

Please welcome him.

  • Congrats to TeaEarlGrey. I was also hoping I could apply to be a mod or recommend some others (Jiggly, Neil and Zhen). I've been fairly active and often contribute to discussions as have they. I sent an email about this a while ago but I think you may have been out on a trip out of town so not sure if you got it or ever got around to replying :/

    • Neil is already a mod. :)

And Congrats teaearlgreyhot a.k.a Jean-Luc on your recent promotion!! Now be nice to us….

scotty, looking for someone from WA? ;)

      • Oh right, can we make the mods names a bit more bolder. Also when did you change your gravatar? Having a mod from WA wouldn't be a bad idea due to the time difference as it would cover a more broader spectrum. If there are every any nominations (voting system) for mod in the future I'd have no issues in nominating you (along with the others I've previously mentioned).

        • Good spot! I had to change my gravatar because someone said I looked ugly in my previous picture. :(

Haha, thanks, and I too think that there are a few around here that are worthy of being nominated as mods. But I think for now, with the power of voting, nuisance sites can be easily buried without much intervention from the mods. Now only if we have the feature to herring forum posts. I think some spammers are getting wiser these days around here, specifically those that spam the forums to avoid their post from being voted down or location tracked.

    • I know you have been very active (although you've only been with OzBargain for less than a year). I am working on a few new features to empower active users to "fix up" the site.

      Stay tuned :)

      • Nah I appreciate it scotty. I want to contribute more to OzBargain (sadly I'm not great at finding deals, but when I do find one, you'll be the first to know, and it's going to be a killer deal).

I eagerly await these new features. We've had a good week, in fact a great week as there are great deals and very few herrings (that I've seen) :D

        • A few issues that I frequently spotted are

          • BAD BAD title saying something like "Big Sale! Cheap!!!" instead of saying "Widget for $99.95 + Free Shipping at ExampleShop". I've seen quite a bit of complains and I've spent a lot of time fixing those — could be done by our active members who spotted them! Feature is already there — just need to draft out some policies

          • Bad tagging. Especially those almost-spammers with keyword stuffing in the tags. Ought to include things like brand, product name, product type, etc. Again, feature is there but policies need to be written.

These are just examples that long-timer members can help. Squashing spammers are easy - neg vote them and they are gone. But making OzBargain "helpful" still needs a bit of work.

@scotty: I would be willing to contribute my time as a moderator too, if you ever feel you need further representation from Victoria (And I don't sleep, so expect me around at 4am lol :)

  • congratulations teaearlgreyhot/Jean-Luc … if that really is your name shifty eyes.

Finally we get some qld represent. :p

  • Congratulations teaearlgreyhot! Keep up the good works guys.

  • Congratulations Jean-Luc (I'll pick that one to call you as I LOVE Jean-Luc)

I'm sure you will be a wise and fair moderator.

    • Sooner or later having Star Trek character gravatar will become a requirement to be an OzBargain mod. Bwhahaha!!

(Just kidding. I'm more a Starwars fan myself…)

      • "I'm more a Starwars fan myself"

Oh Scotty! You've broken my heart!

  • Best Wishes with that :+)
Anyhoo, when you get to be a mod, does the fitting of the full body armor take very long? Do you get free post-traumatic therapy for life? Do you get to carry a concealed weapon?
    Cheers, M.

    • After Borg assimilation, the body armour was a snap!
