PHILIPS 7" Portable DVD Player PD7001B/79 $34.99 @ DSE

370

Just bought one and happy to share with you.

This is unbelievable price.

A brand name quality portable DVD player that cheaper than no brand name players from Kmart,ALDI or repco.

17.8 cm⁄7" TFT color LCD display in 16:9 wide screen format

The color LCD display brings images to life, showing off your treasured photos, favorite movies and music with the same 'real life' rich detail and vibrant colors as high quality prints. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is standard for universal to high-definition digital television. A native 16:9 aspect ratio means video display without bars at top and bottom of the picture and without the quality loss than comes from scaling, altering an image to fit on a different screen size.

Built-in stereo speakers

The stereo speaks provide quality sound and allow you to listen freely. Enjoy music anytime, anywhere, with built-in stereo speakers that allow the convenience and enjoyment of music playback simply by unplugging the headphone.

MP3-CD, CD and CD-RW playback

MP3 is a revolutionary compression technology by which large digital music files can be made up to 10 times smaller without radically degrading their audio quality. A singe CD can store up to 10 hours of music.

View JPEG images from picture disc

Play JPEG photos that are saved on your disc. Relive your favorite moments with family and friends anytime you want!

DVD, DVD+⁄-R, DVD+⁄-RW, (S)VCD, CD compatible

The Philips Portable DVD player is compatible with most DVD and CD discs available in the market. DVD, DVD+⁄-R, DVD+⁄-RW, (S)VCD, and CD – all of them can play on the DVD player. DVD+⁄-R is a shorthand term for a DVD drive that can accept both of the common recordable DVD formats. Likewise, DVD+⁄-RW handles both common rewritable disc types.

Car adaptor included

This player comes with convenient in-car accessory to enhance your movie enjoyment on the road. This car adaptor allows you to power your player using the cigarette charger. Setting up a portable player has never been easier.

Full Resume on Power Loss

The DVD-Video player remembers where you stop watching last time when it is powered off directly or when the power supply discontinued. If you did not switch to play another disc, your player will resume play where you have stopped the movie last time just by reloading the disc. Making your life a lot easier!

DivX Certified for standard DivX video playback

With DivX® support, you are able to enjoy DivX encoded videos and movies from the Internet, including purchased Hollywood films. The DivX media format is an MPEG-4 based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R⁄RW and DVD recordable discs, USB storage and other memory cards for playback on your DivX Certified® Philips device.

Few buttons for simple and easy control

This simple-to-use portable player is designed for easy operation while you are on the move. Simply load your disc into the player to enjoy your favorite DVDs. With few one-touch buttons for easy control and full compatibility with most popular DVD⁄VCD⁄CD discs, you can look forward to great entertainment wherever you go.

    Good price.

I haven't watched a DVD in years though.

    • +5

      you still watching VHS?

  • Thanks OP!

  • Very good price. I'm surprised that these have dropped so much in price in the past 6 month or so.

Saying that, all the people i know haven't watched a DVD in like ages.

Nevertheless, you get my vote for a bargain well spotted as I'm very sure many people would buy this :)

    • +4

Not really all that surprising, look how cheap some tablets are out there and how much more they can do.

    • -3

      wow
      so many people watching VHS…

      • +1

        MKV is my format ;)

  • -1

    Does the screen open flat?

  • Good deal..thanks OP!! Interestingly the catalogue says this is on special for $69.99

    http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/portable-dvd-players/philips-7…

    • Instore at Robina they are showing $69.99 and they won't sell them for this price of $34.99.

  • Does this have AV in?

    • +1

No and it would be a killer bargain if it did.

  • +1

They should put a TV tuner in these things.

    • +1

TV? I think I remember that, back in the days when we used to watch optical disks too. And newspapers were actual paper.

      Resolution: 480(w)x234(H)

Might as well watch the movie on your phone, with such low res.

<ozbarg> OTOH, it is awfully cheap :) </ozbarg>

      • DVDs are only 480p anyway so it's essentially native res.

        • +2

Actually 720x576 or 704x576 are the typical PAL resolutions so you're losing a fair bit though how much this will matter on a 7" screen is debateable I suppose.

NTSC is 480 (and - not 100% sure - interlaced? … i seem to recall this when I er .. backed up DVD's sometimes).

      • Well considering yer phone is more than likely 720p and up you might as well :p

  • +1

I watch DVD's all the time

    • -2

How boring. At least the cases have some useful text on them.

  • +3

Bought one. Thanks OP. It has rechargeable battery, AV out, headphones, I connect it to TV and it worked great. However AV cables not included.

  • Thanks OP. Got 2.

  • Pick up one tomorrow. Well spotted OP. Thanks

    LOL

dics, what is this? The Stone age?

  • Good Price.
Interestingly, the PHILIPS 9" Portable DVD PD9030 is listed at $149.00. I guess some people are willing to pay a lot more for an extra couple of inches…

    • +4

insert obligatory "that's what she said" retort

  • I got free delivery and bought 2 of them.
Does it have USB connection for HDD?
Sorry Im in a rush and jumped on this deal.

    • +3

No USB which is unfortunate otherwise I would have bought a couple as well.

  • Was thinking to get these earlier for kids, but later bought cheap Acer 7" tablets where not only they can watch movies, but can also play games and are quite light. No doubt paid twice the price for the tablet.

  • How can i make in region free?

    • You probably cannot make the device region free. However it is a fairly easy process (provided you have time and a dvd writer + dvds) to make your existing DVD's have the all regions flag which is effectively the same thing.

    • +4

I made mine region free. Our model is pd7001b. The method for pd9012 works.

      source: http://www.multi-region.net/philips_pd9012
      1. Turn on the dvd without the dvd disc in it.
      2. Once the blue screen is on press the buttons as follows:
      3. (next) → (previous) → (next) → (previous) → (next) → (next) → (previous) (Make sure you DO THIS USING THE BUTTONS ON TOP OF THE DEVICE right next to the setup button)
      4. This will open the factory menu.
      5. Now use the navigation keys around the play/stop buttons to highlight "region" and change the region to "test 0".
      6. This makes it region free.
      7. Enjoy it.

      • Oh nice - there you go.

      • Awesome. Region free might persuade me.

        • I can confirm this hack still works. Input on my newly purchased one, and it'll automatically switch region for you. Tried with R1, R2, R4 and R0 discs. Extremely happy.

      • Do you need to perform this procedure every time or is it a permanent hack?
i would like to send one overseas as a gift but it must be fool proof.

  • That's crazy. We got a 7" Philips DVD for a wedding gift (9 years ago) that cost $450…and it was crap….and it broke down and the local repair agent quoted $290 to fix it!

Does anyone know how long it will play with a fully charged battery?
