Kawai Acoustics Piano - How much discount can I negotiate?

Hi ozbargain community,

In short, I'm looking to purchase a new acoustics piano for my two kids. And recently I have come across the Kawai K300 which carries a RRP of $7,999.

As this is the first time I'm buying a piano, I'm wondering what is the "typical" amount of discount I should be expecting from the RRP? Also, any negotiation tactics will also be appreciated.

I look forward to any feedback from the ozbargain community.

:)

  • Must it be new? Plenty of second hand pianos going for a song everywhere I've looked lately - many families selling them after the kids have moved out, my parents have 2 and the I laws have 1. $8k new or $500 second hand and your kids won't know the difference, but your wallet will.

  • Yes I did consider a second hand one…but as I'm no piano player/expert myself, I will have to pay someone (like a piano tuning expert) to test every second hand piano I'm considering. And amongst other reasons, in the end my preference is still a new one.

    • Why not just get one from a reputable shop and then get someone to tune it

  • Digital piano? ~1 - 1.5k new. You never need to retune them.

    • dont be a modernist, go classical
