Do you really want lug around a 15 inch laptop on campus though? I'd highly recommend getting 13 or 14 inch device, not only is it more portable but they tend to have a longer battery life.
MSY sells the Acer Travelmate P255-M-34014GG50MT for $549.

It's also a 15 inch laptop but has a Core i3-4010U Haswell CPU. Might be worth considering.
Other option is a Ivy Bridge i3 Lenovo E431 for $499.

At 2.15kg with battery, its a reasonable size for a 15.6 inch laptop.
I find the battery life a bit average at 4 hours especially for those long days at uni.
