Jetstar cancelled my flight?

Hi,

I've booked a flight from Pnom Penh -> Singapore on 20th May, and 2 day after they sent me an email adv they cancelled the flight, they gave me the alternative to accept the flight next day or get a refund. The issue is l've another flight from Singapore -> hongkong on the same day, this mess up my plan totally. I am wondering if anybody has this experience before and do they get any compensation?

You won't get compensation however Jetstar usually can move you to the flight after or the flight before. Might be worth going a day early and staying a night in Singapore.

Jetstar did that to us for a flight between Gold Coast to Sydney — they actually moved us to a better time which we didn't book previously because it was more expensive. Moreover they gave us extra $50 vouchers for all 4 of us. Not always a bad thing.

  • My last flight with Jetstar (delayed in melb for 12hrs due to some faulty hydraulics) had my connecting flights missed in Singapore. Lucky for me though my travel insurance took care for another ticket on another carrier. Had to pay for it first and later reimbursed.

  • This is what travel insurance is for…

  • refund and switch to Tiger flight same day?

    • Yea, l notice tiger also has this route except they're much earlier takeoff which means l've to stopover for 14 hours!!

  • This shouldn't happen.. with so little notice they've probably overbooked your flight and haven't had as many cancellations as usual.. low cost carriers use this strategy to ensure the flight is packed. I'm guessing your SG to HK flight is with a diff carrier?

If you have travel insurance (either bought or some credit cards include it for free if you buy your tickets on the card eg Westpac altitude platinum and a bunch of others) you should be able to buy a ticket with a different carrier to replace the one that Jetstar cancelled. Call the company to double check, but they will usually cover the difference between your refunded fare and your new ticket as long as flying in same class. Always have travel insurance!

If no travel insurance, then you can take the refund and book with another carrier out of pocket, or alternatively see if Jetstar can fly you a day earlier if that's an option. Singapore is an awesome stopover for a day, great shopping and food.

Without knowing the flight number you are just making an assumption.

Jetstar is changing a number of flights, I have had the same with a flight to Osaka in May via Cairns.

Checking the flight number with another attempted booking, it now has changed. It no longer orginates in Sydney as it did before.

Knowing the flight number you can check if it still is flying on the day you were bumped
