Time to replace the cheap foldable umbrellas that I keep on buying when they break a few weeks/months later.

Shelta umbrellas are extremely good. AU$15-30.
I found their automatic umbrella to be pretty good and the intense Melbourne winds haven't broken it. However found it slightly too heavy.
Replaced it with a Maehara Umbrella while I was on a trip to Japan. Expensive though (~AU$100), wonder how well will it stand up to the wind… Materials are extremely high quality, supposedly the brand that is approved to be used by the Japanese Imperial Family.
Light umbrella with a Glass Fibre Rib Cage and silk / poly cloth.
2nd the shelta. It was about the only brand when I was a kid, so they have history.
I bought my latest 4yrs ago after similar $5 option problems.
Have had to restitch two of the rib ends, but otherwise is going well.
I lost the storage sheath thing, and I actually think the cover material will end up wearing out from rubbing in my bag.
Well worth the $20.

yes japanese are the smallest and best quality but expensive

Hi there, I used to commute to work, and yes I had the same issue as you, my $5 foldable umbrellas only last a few months maybe.
So I did some research and came to the same conclusion as you, and got the umbrella in your link from Officeworks. I still have it after 3 years although the locking mechanism is a bit stuck now, making it harder to lock when you retract. I am pretty happy with my purchase, but I think I paid about $13-$14 for it but the price might have gone up due to inflation?
