Any suggestions / Deals for flights from MLB to LA in Oct 14

Hi Guys,

Has anyone got any suggestions or deals they might have used or know of for this travel. We have an infant, he'll be 1.5 yrs old then. So Air New Zealand is close to $1200 and next comes Air Fiji. We are planning on continuous journey.

Air Nz seems to be using 777s which was in a recent crash if I am not wrong. Any views?

Any inputs will be great. Has anyone got experience of booking tickets like MLB-LA and return SF-MLB, is that possible?

  • I'm looking for tickets BNE-LA return about that time as well. Personally I'd fly direct, Virgin is usually about $1199 return. If there's a layover in Auckland or Fiji on a flight slightly cheaper, I'd prefer to spend the extra $$ and prevent turning a 14 hour flight into an 18 hour flight.

An option I'm watching is cheap flights to Honolulu from MEL SYD or BNE… From there you can get a decently priced domestic flight from HNL - LA or SF, enjoy a bit of Hawaii on the way, and break up that horribly long flight into two chunks.

Just checked on Virgin, non-sale economy flights for Oct are 1195.

Don't worry about that, incidents are extremely rare, just because its been in an accident doesn't mean that its not safe :)

  • Virgin is slightly expensive than air new Zealand. But they have direct flught from melbourne. With a infant I am unsure which one I should go with.

  • I'm looking at flying in the same month from Sydney. Atm the cheapest direct flights are with Virgin/Delta and Qantas for around $1200-1350 respectively. Use Google flight search http://www.google.com/flights/ and/or cheapair to book.

Well, we went with Virgin, direct flight from Melbourne to LA, total for 2 adults and 1 infant was 2450. This is think is Ok.

    • Good idea, I don't think you'll get much of a better deal for a direct flight than about that price. There may be specials later in the year for other carriers that involve at least one stop, but you might save $200 a ticket, and it may not be worth the extra hours with a young child
