Cleaning Products

For people on a tight budget, l thought l would share a great way to make your own general purpose cleaner. Start by cutting 6 oranges in halfs. Juice the orange for a refreshing drink. Fill a glass bottle with the orange peel. (6 oranges will fill a 750ml bottle). Then fill the bottle with any cheaper white vinegar. Leave this sit for 7 to 10 days. Strain the solution to your spray bottle. Works great on most surfaces and leaves a pleasant citrus smell. Also tested it on black ants. Knocks them out cold. I should also warn not to use this method or other citrus based cleaning products on granite bench tops.

Does this formula work for dirty dishes? The commercial ones must have some chemical to clean off stains which you can't replicate with vinegar and oranges?

What about using lemon instead of oranges? They have higher acidity vs. oranges.

For washing dishes use the solution and a small handful of bicarb soda. As for using lemons, yes you can use them but l prefer drinking orange juice rather than lemon juice.

  • I normally use vinegar and baking soda paste to clean textured floors but I really liked your idea of making this cleaning product. I haven’t try orange before but I will try to make this solution.

DON'T use a citrus based cleaner on your stainless steel stove or oven control panel. It will remove the printing. It soon becomes pretty tiresome guessing at where the settings are supposed to be.
