Best Gym out there? [Perth]

Hi everyone!

How are you all? Good I hope :)

I was just wondering with all the gyms popping up lately, its kind of hard to decide/know which ones are "good", both in terms of price, and I suppose equipment and what you get out of it. So to anyone whose had any experience with gyms, please share your opinions and experiences as I'd love to hear about them :)

Many thanks in advance and I hope you have a great day!

  • I'm with Anytime and find they are good value and have lots of locations. All the Anytime's I've been to have had plenty of equipment and lots of free weights and squat racks to use 24/7 which is great.

As long as you don't join Business Fitness First you're fine.

Most gyms these days are pretty decent and well equipped. The three most important things for finding a gym IMO, in descending order of importance:

    1. Find a gym that is in a convenient location (near your home/work) as this will give you less reason to slack off (consistency = results!). Also make sure the opening hours suit your lifestyle.
    2. Make sure the gym has the right type of equipment for the majority of exercises you intend to do. E.g. If you want to do squats, make sure there is a proper squat rack (not a crappy smith machine).
    3. Find a friend to gym with. It'll help you be more consistent as you can keep each other in check and make sure there is no slacking off. Having a trusted friend to spot you and check your form when doing weights is handy too.

    Have fun! :)

I don't really get this question… aside from a logistical standpoint, as mentioned above, the gym itself really isn't going to determine what you get out of it. Most gyms have sufficient equipment, opening hours etc. Why is everyone so obsessed with trying to find the 'best' gym, the 'best' exercises, the 'best' clothing, the 'best' protein… Just go out and lift!

    • because gyms vary in how well they operate:
      - do they quickly respond to faulty equipment?
      - will they respond and act on customer feedback (aircon not strong enough).
      - what are there terms when cancelling or holding membership?
      - do they have "membership caps" to ensure the gym is not flooded with patrons leaving little space for anyone to exercise?
      - how friendly are the staff? do you walk in and they don't give a damn and carry about playing on their iphone or computer?
      - are they pushy on cross-selling tactics?
      - and is equipment suitable to your needs? are there sufficient squat racks, benches? dumbbell weight range sufficient?

these are some to the things I consider when signing up to a new gym.

for the OP: I don't know about Perth - just do your research online. if you don't need multiple locations - consider finding a local gym that may offer cheaper rates. just make sure the T&Cs don't screw you over.

  • I'm with Plus Fitness 24/7 in Melville. It seems pretty decent so far, and we just got around 15 new machines and equipment earlier this year. I've been to many gyms and I'd say this has the best variety of equipment for you to use so far.

There seems to be a few popping up in various locations now, and I pay $13/pw.

Not sure how much the other 24 hour gyms are though, but if I wasn't with this one I would also look at Anytime fitness or Snap fitness.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.

  • It probably depends on your goals, deadlines and experience. The reality is you can pretty much accomplish a majority of substituted exercises at home that could in theory get you to your goal (if you aren't aiming to be a pro body builder).

Some people go for the equipment, some need guidance and motivation from trainers, some just like to be around other people who are working out too as a motivational tool. So once you figure out what your motivation is for needing a gym, see if they have any short term trials. If the vibe isn't right then find the next nearest.

I imagine it would be helpful to have a gym nearby, because who the hell wants to travel for 20-30 minutes just to work out. The best gym is the one where you feel motivated to drag yourself to in order to reach your goal :)

  • Just go for walkie its free and dont eat so much

  • Hi pyro love bird, just wondering which one you joined in the end? I'm looking for one now and looking at signing up at an anytime fitness branch that's gonna open for the opening specials.
