Data add on solution

It seems my phone did a 'sync' with Google+ (whatever that is) yesterday while I had my data on my phone using 2.4gb!!! So now I have .5gb left for the next 19days. I'm with Vodafone, normally have 5gb a month so im not gonna last the next 3 weeks. I can buy add on data which is the easiet solution but is going to cost $20 for 1.25gb or $30 for 2gb, which ill need the 2gb realistically.

I have an old wifi modem and usb from plans gone by so just wondering if anyone has any experience or knows of any good pre paid data to tide me over…or is it just not worth the hassle?? What have others done when you've needed more data?

thanks in advance:)

  • Not going to help with your current situation but you can change your settings to only sync/update apps automatically while connected to wifi. You can still manually choose to update them (a notification appears) using mobile data.

  • Not worth the hassle..
It'll cost similar and carrying the dongle thing will get annoying very quickly. The battery on a WiFi dongle isn't going to last all day either. So you'll be further inconvenienced by having to either live without data for a few hours each day or turn the dongle on/off when you want to use data.
Pay the $30 for the 2Gb data pack, sort out the reason why Google+ used so much data and move on.

  • Thanks for the advice. I suspected it wasn't worth it. Just another unexpected expense to swallow is all. Im mainly at home using data on ph or porting to the ipad or comp so battery isn't really an issue as I can keep plugged in. But could be worse. .could've gone over and got into the excess usage charges…

    • Did your photo library sync?
      or Music?
If so, it could well be just a one off usage and future syncs will be negligible.

  • I think it was my photo library according to hubby, got no music on my phone. Very annoying. I was porting my data to my ipad so didn't notice on my phone till night when I got my data warning msgs from Vodafone.

Hopefully a one off! Im not sure if I accident ally clicked a 'sync' button while I was turning on my mobile data. There should be an "are you sure?" Msg before it goes ahead though I think!

    • You would have agreed to sync photos at some stage even if you don't recall.
Now that they are synced though, it shouldn't chew through so much data in one go cause it'll only sync the new photos you take from now on (or you can just elect not to sync photos)in Settings-Accounts-Google

  • Good to know. Thanks.
