  • Does it have ceramic panels ?

  • When switching it on at the wall (or with a manual timer) can/does it instantly start heating?

Or does the inbuilt timer allow this? (some don't)

The Aldi special army marches on

  • And enjoy massive arsed power bills while using it! :-P

Not really, my last year's power bill was infact much lower than previous two winters. Mainly coz of digital temperature LED indicator (prevents over heating) and option to switch off, increase/decrease the temperature using remote controller as required without having to get up.

      • It's still the most inefficient form of heating, no matter how you want to twist it.

There's a a reason these heaters are so 'cheap' to buy.

  • Can you tell me what are the dimensions of this thing? Wondering if it'll fit nicely my room and how much of a twat I'll look carrying this on the streets.

    • +1

Roughly smaller than a 32" LCD TV, but its light weight and portable.

  • +2

Yep a cheap Split air con would cost a lot more to start with but would last longer and would be a lot cheaper to run. (Unless you are renting…)

  • +1

It's $10 more than last year. I brought 3 and they were $34.99 each.

It's a very good quality heater, able to heat up the room within 10 minutes.

    • +4

Given the fact it pulls 2.4kw you need a quick heat so you can turn it off…..
At full steam is going to cost about 70c an hour to run (@30c/kwh)

Haha, I got downvoted due to bringing that up earlier, funny how some people don't like hearing facts.

Last winter I paid $80 more using these heaters for few hours a day over 3 months billing. It doesn't use that much electricity as you claimed.

        • I don't have to claim anything, the power usage (and associated costs) are easily calculated by simple maths.

        • I was referring to 1000W and I didn't down vote you.

        • So its 30c per hour to run on its lowest setting

    • same story, cheap to buy, expensive to use.

        OK - come on Einstein.

Show us a portable electric heater that is more efficient and cheaper to run (for the same heat output).

Another interesting feature, not clearly mentioned in product description is, it has 3 modes of operations:
    1000W
    1400W
    2400W (1000W+1400W)

For relatively warmer nights, 1000W is sufficient. Infact, I never had to use 2400W mode, 1400W mode was sufficient at all times.

    • Use the lowest setting is enough to heat up your room in no time.

      • +1

At 1kW per hour you would hope so.

Since it has a thermostat, it makes no difference to your heating or your power bills.

The main difference is that 2400W will heat up faster, and will be running for 41.66% less time than the 1000W setting.

that's like saying if you drive 100km it doesn't matter whether you drive fast or slow you'll use the same amount of fuel. Completely wrong.
