The brand Daniel Wellington was established in Uppsala, an hour´s drive north from Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

In Uppsala lies the oldest University of Scandinavia. Founded in 1477, the University is still to this day considered to be among the best in the world.
It is part of the so called Coimbra Group, which includes members such as Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol.

Influenced by the preppy fashion of the man he´d later dedicate the brand to, Filip Tysander founded Daniel Wellington during his studies at Uppsala University.
Three years later, the brand has its head office a short walk from the facilities of the ancient University.

    Overpriced, IMO

  • Fashion Watches, and quartz movements, so yeah, overpriced, but as far as styling/design goes there are far worse looking choices for more money.

I do like the attempt to ascribe some sort of historical quality to the brand because the guy who founded the company went to a very old university though - that was a good touch.

Their website doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in their watches. Having a different name for the same watch with a different strap just seems like they are trying to make it look like they have a lot of products. Not to mention it only mentions watch colour as rose gold or silver which gives the impression that they aren't actually gold or silver. Add to that a cheap quartz movement and nowhere does it say where it is made (automatically assume China) and it suddenly looks like an extremely overpriced watch.

Thanks for this - I have a DW watch and I really like it. Basically a very poor man's JLC

  • Everything on the site suggest the watches are overpriced. Right down to the very strained and nauseating attempt at giving the brand some silly back story.

I can buy at least 3 low end Seikos for $200, for which I know exactly what im getting for my money.
