  • Oh man, this is excellent I've been trying to hunt down a deal on one of these for the last two days.

Just out of curiosity though, does anyone know when I can expect to have it in my hand?

    • Usually at least 3-4 weeks, have done about 6 orders with them in the past year all with similar timeframes, if not longer. Products are usually pretty decent though just not if you need them in a hurry.

  • Potentially a great deal. I'm a little concerned with the build quality though (all plastic) and I'm not sure they'd survive over the long haul here. I'm going to give it a miss but give the deal itself a +1 for bargain status.

Didn't find specific reviews but Amazon's limited customer feedback is varied across the board and averages 3/5 stars overall. http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-JumpDrive-Flash-LJDS23-64GASBNA-…

the price of the drive is pretty good, but the reviews on Amazon are quite average for this drive

I've got this drive and bought the same one last year for $39 (sale). They're fantastic. I can transfer large files on a consistent speed of about 80MB/s (USB 3 to USB 3) and about 30-35MB/s from USB3 to USB2. Works great on the PS3 as well as Xbox 360, and have had no issues with this drive since I bought it.

Although I must say a $17 delivery fee is f#cking ridiculous for something as light as 2 USB drives.

  • Just recently had my portable hard drive fail on me with all my kids photos and videos, would these be a more future proof as theres no moving parts?
Had a few hard die on me 2-5 year marks these shouldn't pose above issue?

    • +2

Flash drives are a convenient way to transfer files from one location to another, but should never be used for "permanent" storage.

    • +3

don't rely on just one back-up medium, use multiple devices and multiple types

    • +1

would these be a more future proof as theres no moving parts?

No. Backing up to at least 3 separate storage mediums would be. You don't have to get your own NSA Datacentre; just buy some Blu-Rays, and get 2 external HDDs. 1-2TB drives are insanely cheap now.

He who laughs last, has the best backup.

  • -2

Looks cheap, but i wouldn't buy. It's a pain if you lose 60GB's of files, even if you have most of it backed up. It'll just be painful, you'll wish you spent the extra few $$$

    Imo

    • +1

even if you have most of it backed up. It'll just be painful,

Yeah I've always found it really hard to pick up my other hard drive with duplicates of my all precious files and plug it in.

People really need to wrap their heads around the fact that digital storage mediums are disposable products with finite lifetimes.

That revelation alone would end most people's life-shattering data-loss catastrophes that occur when your average soccer mum chucks 15 years worth of irreplaceable photos/videos onto the cheapest, most generic hard drive she could find, only to lose them after drop-kicking it into a wall or putting it into a washing machine.

      • Still for $30+ I want to use more than once. :)
Which might not be the case with these sticks. :)

Yeah I've always found it really hard to pick up my other hard drive with duplicates of my all precious files and plug it in.

Sorry, i don't like wasting money on multiple portabe devices, when i can save money and buy one reliable one. And use a cloud storage to back up those files, instead of wasting physical material.

Sure, everything's disposable. Do you think i'm that stupid? No, I just like the idea of buying reliable products for an extra few dollars, that'll last me an extra few years, saving money in the long run.

        • +1

if your data is truly valuable, you'll think nothing of spending a bit more to safeguard it. that means on multiple devices and locations.

i know we ozbargainers like to spend as little money as possible but sometimes this just isn't a good strategy.

and btw, this flash drive is from a reputable brand, not some no-name generic product.

        • and btw, this flash drive is from a reputable brand, not some no-name generic product.

I know my flash drive brands, just because it has a reliable flash memory chip, doesn't mean it's a reliable drive. Why bother, when it has a flimsy plastic casing? The drive's only as good as it's weakest part. read the reviews on amazon, for yourself.

        • the sandisk extreme drives are feel pretty flimsy but are still heaps popular here every time there's a deal posted. wouldn't you know, i haven't broken mine yet. and i have a sneaking suspicion it's because i don't abuse my tech.

and reviews are only as good as the person reviewing it i.e. worthless if the poor sod is a ham-fisted muppet

        • +1

Fair enough, i'm not a huge fan of sandisk flash drives, but i've only ever used the slower ones, old models etc.

True. But accidents happen, i treat my technology well, i'm not rough with it, but i like to know that it could withstand a bit if it needed too.

Anyways our opinions stand, which is understandable.
