Things to do in Melbourne

Was hoping someone in Melbourne could give me recommendations as to what to do. Coming down with the Mrs and was hoping for some local guidance. Will have a car and staying for a week.

at the moment got the great ocean drive, Brighton beach and yarra valley on the list.

thanks!

  • So I am guessing you are not the shopping kind, however the mrs might appreciate the Emporium opening tommrow ;)

    H&M also open, plan the CBD shopping day early and don't be like those people lining up all day

    Email I sent to a friend: though initially we were talking about next month (and targeted at overseas visitors).

    Around the city and the outskirts of the city, the usual highlights are:
    * Chinatown
    * Victoria Market
    * Bourke St Mall and Melbourne Central and the lane ways for shopping and food
    * Museums, art galleries, if that is your thing
    * Crown casino, Southbank, Yarra river etc
    * Aquarium, zoo, Werribee Zoo is worth a mention, the animals are allowed to roam free and are not in cages and enclosures.
    * St Kilda and Brighton beaches, check out Williamstown.
    * University of Melbourne
    * nice parks and gardens like the Royal Botanical Gardens
    * catch an AFL match at the MCG or Etihad Stadium.

    Other day trips:
    * Bright - for autumn leaves
    * Phillip island - see fairy penguins and other animals like the wombats and koalas in the wildlife parks out there
    * Great Ocean Road - beautiful scenery
    * Mornington Peninsula - wineries, etc
    * Daylesford - spa country
    * Healesville Sanctuary

    What are your interests art , theatre, shopping , food, sights ??

    Check out some of the graffiti art in city lane ways.

    Yarra Valley - Yerring Station is great for a meal, Healesville specially on a market day,

    Mornington Pennisula - Red Hill , Mornington, Flinders

    Dandenoeng Ranges

    wtf, there are some odd things on these lists.

    Brighton beach? Just a city beach, nothing special

    Melbourne University? The same as any other old university, in any city around the world

    Mornington? Why Mornington, its just the first town past suburbia. The high street is a normal high street, the beach is awful. Better going to Mt Martha or better yet up the coast in Portsea.

    I would suggest a drive up the Mornington Peninsula seeing Red Hill, Mt Martha, Flinders and Portsea (including the national park).

    The city centre

    A drive up the Ocean Road

    These will fill up a week, you might be able to squeeze in the Yarra Valley if you are quick. Maybe.
