Looking for a Windows 98 Printer, in WA

My mate's grandmother, lovely lady, asked me to fix her computer last week. I was all getting ready to tell her about the end of XP support, but nearly fell over when I saw she was still running 98. I managed to get the computer going, its actually running very very well for its age, but wouldn't be able to run windows xp, specs are too low.

Next problem is the printer, she's got an old Canon BJC-6200. Looks like the print heads have dried up. No one sells them in australia but I've made some enquiries overseas, but am expecting the shipping to cost an arm and a leg, so maybe the best bet is to replace the printer. Are there any budget printers around that still support 98? Preferably over Parallel connection. USB support is a bit dodgy.

I've told her that shes working with a ticking time bomb and that she is going to face problem after problem with compatibility, but she is a pensioner and cant afford a new computer, and she only really uses it to type up documents so it serves her needs for now. She just needs to be able to print…

Hope someone can help. I'm south of the river in WA.

Thanks
Ric

If you're not concerned about colour printing maybe something like this:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brother-HL-5250DN-Laser-Printer-/…
It's in WA too! Not sure if close to where you live.

It has parallel interface and as it is laser, the toner will last a while. Replacement toners aren't too expensive either.

It is compatible with Win 98 and you can get drivers from here:

    Hope this helps..

    • Oooh, that's very helpful, thanks!
Anyone find anything south of the river?

  • Try a computers for pensions program.
Also remind her not to do banking or anything on there.
