World Cup 2014

Hi,

So I'm really excited about going to the world cup in Brazil. I've got tickets to games in Rio, Sao Paolo and Belo Horizonte.

I have looked up airbnb mainly in Rio and i'm surprised that accomodation is so expensive.. $75 AUD per person pernight in dorm share - really bad hostels.. AirBnB people have special prices for WC - where they nearly triple the price!

If anyone can give me any tips on how to get good value accomodation in Brazil, and how to get around the cities I would greatly appreciate it.

    I would have send book early. It was always going to be that during the World Cup. Going to Australia and Netherlands game and we had ( 4 ppl) to book an apartment for the for of us. End up costing around $250pp per night. Some accommodation was cheaper and more normal hostel prices.

    i just used http://www.hostelbookers.com/ to get an good idea of good quality/safe hostels and then contacted through email or their website to book. Most places are asking for !00% upfront payment to guarantee their place.

    I wouldn't go too cheap. I don't want to scare you but safety should be a big priority when choosing accommodation in Rio, even if it costs you more. Gangs have been known to raid hostels and rob everyone staying there. I am sure this will be more common during the world cup when they know the hostels are at full occupancy.
