DIY Grampians tour

I'm planning a two day two nights getaway for around 3-10 friends. Seeing that I've never been there(sad I know) and never really planned a 'holiday' before I'm quite lost/ What I tend to do is scour for a reasonably priced(i.e. cheap) tour and join in.

I(nor my friends) don't own a 4WD or any large vehicle so that s going to make driving there difficult.

I want to know everything that MUST be done/visited in Grampians. But I don't care much about the experience of camping outdoors - that requires 'rest' discomfort and tents.

I've already had a look at
http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/grampians-national-p…

but there are too many things really. I need the absolute best activities.

I'd check out http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/vic/regional-victoria/grampian… for kick ass budget accommodation.

From the YHA site: - There is plenty to see and do in this rugged mountain range renowned for its breathtaking rocky views, rich culture and stunning wildflower displays. Visit Aboriginal rock art sites, spectacular lookouts and awe inspiring waterfalls. Or why not try bushwalking, rockclimbing, picnicking, bike riding, camping or fishing?

Apollo Bay Eco YHA hostel is 258 km SE, and offers the same kick ass accomidation (at a higher price), and is the start of the best part of the Great Ocean Rd. If u wanted a driving holiday you could drive Grampians to Apollo Bay, then onto the 12 Apostles and back.

Think there are plenty of wineries to check out in the region as well.

You won't need a 4WD in the Grampians. All the roads are paved, so just hire a car.

From Halls Gap (where most of the accommodation is) you can do a lot of day walks.

There is plenty of accommodation also, from caravan parks to hotels. Always check your bedding before sleeping for spiders as my partner was bitten by a white tail there and it made him very sick.

If you do drive, make sure you are off the roads at dawn and dusk as this is the time animals move about and you won't want to hit one in your car.

There are plenty of tours from Halls Gap. There is also an information centre there. If you avoid school holidays, then you can book the day before.
