  • Air Asia have been having a sale. Believe it is only a short bus ride to Singapore from KL. Might be worth investigating. Use search on here as recent sales are listed. JoyV

    • +1

      About 8 hours or so

  • No need to go down from K.L. to Singapore by bus. Too troublesome and more expensive . I use to stop over at K. L. for few nights and then continue to Singapoe by Air Asia. Usually that sector is offered free for fare . What you are required to pay are those fuel charges and air port tax ( exclude luggage charges, but the usual 7 kg. free applies), something like between A50.00 for a return trip between K.L.and Singapore. Having said the above, I understand one can buy a stopover flight direct to Singapore now . That is to say they will unload your bags inK.L. to a much smaller aircraft . You just wait in the transit room, and off to SG next in accordance with the flight time you choose earlier .With the full operation of KLIA 2, it should be a smooth arrangement for all of you.I like to fly with AA. who claims correctly Everyone can Fly now. So true. Wish you good luck.By the way ( with AA) a tip
for everyone here it is much cheaper to book your returns trip by two ways,I.e. to say first book ( online) from Mel. ( not Sydney unfortunately) to K.L.this way you pay Auusie currency, then you book the return one in Malaysian ringgit from KL. Note SG currency commands a much stronger rate than Malaysia R.

    Do as a real OZbargainer.

  • To be honest, the flying with young kids needs to be taken into account… I've done it a few times with both full service carriers (Malaysia Air) and cheap airlines (AirAsia) and I can tell you the following experience:

    • Don't try and save $10 if it is going to cause headaches later, you'll regret it
    • Don't try and save $100 if it is going to cause headaches later, you'll regret it
    • The cheap airlines will cut you some slack if you have some young kids, but not much… Not nearly as much as a full service airline
    • Avoid connecting flights at all costs… Seriously, don't go via KL. The complexity and hassle of getting off a long flight with kids and a tonne of stuff, waiting around an airport (say LCCT), and then packing everyone back on again while the kids are bored, tired, crying, and uncooperative cannot be measured in money
    • If you can afford it, take the full service airline.. Qantas or Singapore Air… But I recognise the cumulative price difference for a family can add up to going or not and that's where you decide if you really want to go or not.
    • Oh and depending on how young they are, you will be the most hated people in the plane.. Enjoy it :)

Qantas at $699 is pretty cheap. I used to always buy my Singapore tickets at around $1000 - $1200 (work paid so I didn't give a stuff)

  • Singapore airlines have just sent a special Easter email but it seems to be $730 return so QF price is quite good. As above price is not everything.

However when travelling with kids you need to take into account the friendliness of flight times and avoidance of stopovers. Singapore travel reports are generally superior to Qantas. I would also compare In Flight Entertainment options for Children on both carriers.
You can read reviews on airlinequality.com for each airline. JoyV

  • No best month comes to mind. We all must wage war against the booking computer as we best see fit. Scoot does, however, have a sale every Tuesday morning. Be sure to register for emails from them - they will remind you every Monday.

  • Thanks everyone for the recommendations!
The Qantas deal was far too tempting to pass-up and decided to book it!
With kids, was willing to pay abit extra for direct flight (save the hassle of boarding on & off)
however if you are travelling without any children, definitely go for the ScootFare deal. Absolute bargain.
