Videoezy, Blockbuster, WOWHD price hike?

Just thought I wanted to ask but I've been perusing their newest 20% off games deal since its easter and I noticed that all the 3DS games seems to have risen in price by about $10 relative to my last purchases only a month or so ago >.>…

So with that said anyone know of a nice cheap place for games now that don't cost an arm and leg? >:(

  • yep prices have gone up heaps… not sure of any cheap sites now :(

  • I think it happened about a month ago. Now they're not worth it, if they stop getting business they may hopefully go back to their old pricing.

Currently I believe the best is a mix of Beat The Bomb, Target and BigW. My favourite is Beat The Bomb as Target's price-matching is a bit sketchy and I don't have a Big W near me so they charge $5 shipping as well. I never thought I would see a time when I would be primarily buying local copies of Nintendo games again but I guess these things happen. There are times when JB Hifi do good deals but not often enough to make it a regular store, however 99c shipping is nice.

If you are looking for Wii U games and have a premium pack it may be worth it in some cases to check the eShop. Especially if you get money back and stars, which you can sell items you buy with on eBay. Also 3ds full retail games on the eShop get you double stars from memory so that may be a saving of a few dollars after eBay. In general though Big W and Target will still beat either eShop and you don't have to go through the surveys.

    • +1

It really makes me regret buying the aussie 3DS =...when I first got it I kept thinking well at least I can buy them overseas on special and it'll be about the same price as an american new game (thats not on special) but now even with the 20% off I'm paying considerably more sighs…but yea I know where you're coming from I'm mostly looking at target/big W sales now and then walking in to ebgames to get them to price match for me that way I still get the ebgames points :x…sad day for australian gaming

      • I've never bought a non-aus console purely for the warranty. I've had to send my 3DS original back to Nintendo twice. The circuit board malfunctioned on both occasions, both about a year apart. Thankfully Nintendo sent me a brand new console each time and loaded my Ambassador games back on for me. I think they restart the warranty period from the time of last repair but I may be wrong.

        • I definitely see where you're coming from there on a warranty perspective…I guess the way I see it is that currently a brand new game is $40USD in the US…$55-70 aussie here…using today's exchange rate its still $10 cheaper minimum per game and for someone like me who already bought a good handful (and more) :x…I could probably have another half a 3DS in savings at this time had I bought it in the US (exluding shipping since I'd probably switch to buying most of mine digitally). Having a friend or two in the US also helps I guess if I have any warranty issues I'd probably have one of them help me send it in…though the only issue would be time I guess. Oh well either way I just wish that sooner or later the prices would drop back down this price hike is very frustrating.

        • Also don't forget with US prices you're not paying GST… yet. It will happen when the government's tax review comes in. So add another $4-$5 on every US game purchase.

I can just imagine Gerry Harvey's face when it does go through.

        • Didn't they shelve that idea?…
Did a quick search online since I wasn't aware they were talking about it and I saw
          http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/policy/plan…

which works for me xD…but seriously though even if you put that into consideration a game you buy from say ebay rises to $45…then you add in the exchange rate to make $50…it's still cheaper no matter how I look at it…Either way I just think the Aussie game market needs to lower their costs….
I know that reading online someone mentioned that in australia without the price being what it is the companies are making a loss…and that stores like Target who drop their prices to sub $50 usually are doing it to entice shoppers to go there and purchase other things as well…but it just hasn't sunk in or made much sense to me after all this time…….
