  • If this is anything like the one they are currently advertising on TV, then it's not a blender; it's a "nutrition extractor".

  • How do you think it would compare to a "Magic Bullet" or what ever name they go for these days!

    • +3

I'm somewhat of an expert on the subject of Magic Bullets. I have a disabled 8 year old who only eats purees - we've worn out a few of these things over the years, whizzing up leftovers almost every night.

The genuine Magic Bullet lasted the longest - I think we got more than a year out of it.

But we replaced it with a no-brand copy from HomeArt, which cost about 1/3 as much, and lasted a bit over half as long, so was better value.

Rinse and repeat - the next cheap one lasted about the same.

The failure point on all of them is the bearing/seal where the chopper shaft goes through the lid. The bearings get loose over time, and get rattly and noisy. Then liquid starts to seep through… which means it's time to get another new one. The other thing that goes is the switch-pushing tabs on the "bullet" containers (when you push then down, the tabs activate the switches). They get brittle and break off eventually.

The motor unit itself hasn't given us any grief, on the genuine or copy.

This one is about the same price as the cheapies we've had, so assuming it's as durable as the other generics, it's a good thing. I'm toying with the idea of getting one.

We're using a "Ninja" chopper now. It's a different machine - doesn't blend as smoothly as a Bullet, so don't consider they're interchangeable - but it's holding up better than the bullets ever did. Before this we had a similar thing from Aldi - a glass bowl with a chopping blade that drops in to it. No seals to flog out on this kind of thing, so that's a failure point avoided.

  • Are the jugs/grinding cup made of glass or plastic?

    • Don't know at the moment. Will let you know when I receive it.
