Get something like this, no particular preference for it, just the cheapest that came up in a search on eBay:

You'll have to wait a couple of weeks though. If you are willing to pay more, there are local sellers.

  • Will the voltage etc be fine?

    • Look at the power adaptor, it will probably say 110-240V. Most adaptors are universal now.

Also if you have another power adaptor that puts out the same voltage (usually 12V DC) and at least the same current capacity, and has the same plug, you can use that. I use the same power adaptor for two different external HDs I have. They're backup drives so only connected for a few minutes one at a time.

      • Making sure the polarity is the same!

        • I haven't seen anything but centre positive for many years now.

  • Anyone else bought this?

  • Alrighty so I can either buy a travel adapter us to aus or I can buy a generics power adapter but with ann aus plug set $2 for the travel adapter or $20 for the power adapter, I'm thinking the power adapter would be better but idk are the any cons to using a travel adapter

    • In this case? Not really. The only downside would be having an adapter that's slightly clunky.
The power supply is rated for 100-240v 50/60Hz, so it should be right in Australia with a travel adapter (our mains power is 240v).

If you do wanna go down the new adapter route you've got to make sure the new one can deliver at least 1.5 amps, and you'll have to make sure the plug is the right size and polarity - your best bet's a travel adapter.

  • You could buy something like this if you were going to get the power adaptor, however a travel adaptor would be fine for $2.

The power supply is 100-240v, I just use a plier and bend the plug to a V shape.
I did that to lots of adapters already, never had any problem

  • just buy any one from these and it will work

or if you have another seagate that you bought local, the power supply should work with the new one.
