Looking for a semi-good quality bike light for a good price for riding on roads at night.
I've honestly got no idea what I should be looking for? Maybe one that runs on AA/AAA? Rechargeable would be fine tho…

Get a Cree light. You've seen plenty of these on the Ozbargain front page already. Try http://www.fasttech.com/category/1603/bike-lights
You may also see some lights that run on special 18650 lithium batteries. These batteries need a special charger, which you can buy from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/141406.
Rear lights can be sourced from eBay very cheaply. Doesn't have to be fancy.
As a commuter I think the rear light is important - my preference is a 'super flash' one like this:

Very simple- long battery life, don't fall off, and aren't noticeable (ie don't get stolen).
I've had several types and these are my favourite by far.
