Recommendations for a bed and bed frame?

Hi all,

I'm getting married soon and I need a big bed (king size) for me and Mrs. Potatomato.

We're both fairly gargantuan (I'm like, 6"5, and shes probably close to 6") so we need an appropriately gargantuan bed and bed frame.

The going rate for a mattress seems to be about $600-$800, with another $300 for the bed frame.

I'm just wondering, are there any places that are particularily good for these things? We live near a super amart, which seems to have okay prices, but I don't really have anything to compare it to…

Any help would be awesome.

I think mattresses are one of the few things you shouldn't skimp on, as quality of sleep can have a huge impact on you mentally and physically.

Make sure you try out as many as possible - people will recommend different ones but only you will be able to determine which will be the best one in terms of comfort for you. Yeah this might involve laying for an uncomfortably long period of time on a few beds in a store but its worth it in the end!

I second what jobler said. Before my current mattress my previous one was used for the better part of 19 years. Woke up every day with an aching back and feeling like I have been run over by a truck, not knowing it was because of the mattress (yes, I did not know that mattresses have a lifespan of usually 8-12 years). Got a brand new one and within a week of my body adjusting to the new mattress, the backaches were gone.

And like jobler said, be shameless. Lie on a bed as long as you want in store to determine what suits you best. My record was close to 45mins each on two beds that I narrowed down my plausible choices to. Some websites that I read even went so far as to recommend bringing your own pillows to rest on but that was a tad bit too much for me. I went on a weekday afternoon right after lunch so the store was pretty quiet and the person attending to me was happy to leave me alone to try the bed out.

One more thing. I understand some places have a standard mattress length of 198cm with an option to extend it to 203cm. The sales person said that the 'top up' costs involved to get a 203cm mattress is usually not worth the price. He said he himself does not know whether the extra length would consist of springs or merely foam padding. He told me that during his training trip to this particular brand's factory, they did not share how the extra 7cm would be made.
