Car Stereo Head Unit - JB HIFI - Warranty

Hi everyone,

My JVC head unit just stopped working (I've had it for 23 months, just short of 2 years). Took it to JB and they said I needed to buy a new one because the warranty is only 12 months. Do you think I should accept this and just buy a new one? Or should I try to argue that since I've had it for less than two years they should replace it free of charge?

Thanks

  • How much was it?

  • I spent about $1700 for the whole package with the speakers and amp etc. The head unit itself was probably about $200 or so.

JB has had some pretty big crackdowns on this lately. Head back to the store and mention their voluntary warrranty (they refer to it as the blue pamphlet) which states that JB will determine the fault at no cost to you. If it was a fault that was caused by a defect that existed when you purchased it they will repair or replace it for you.

Most likely they will not want to go through this process and will just offer to swap it over for you, but it is possible they will send it away to be repaired. I'd also advise that you ask for a manager to let them know the staff aren't following the rules laid out to customers in the blue pamphlet. If you want to go a step further send an e-mail complaint which will also be sent onto the regional manager (who I'm guessing wouldn't be happy about the situation.)

    Hi guys,

Just an update, it looks like Cal's advice really worked. As soon as I mentioned the blue pamphlet, they've change their tune and were willing to look into it. I'll post another update to let everyone know whether the unit got repaired.

    • glad to hear.
