      There you get an idea…

  • I have never been to a KFL supermarket are they worth going to?

You'll find heaps of products coming from asian countries (spices, sauces, dried noodles, fresh noodles, canned products, dried chilli in oil…etc) Its not too bad at all. I usually get cheap chicken dim sims and buns from there, really good.

The one near us (Racecourse Road in Flemington) has the biggest range of vegetarian "mock meat" stuff that I've ever seen in my life. Ditto for pre-prepared Asian sauces, spices, and so forth.

Obviously that is a narrow appeal, but since we moved into the area last month, KFL has overtaken Minh Phat (in Richmond) as my guess at the best Asian grocer I've ever seen.

Good old QLD. No KFL, No Costco (yet).
We like to buy our mi goreng full price.

      • I'm in Toowoomba and there's quite a few Asian supermarkets dotted around where you can pick up Mi Goreng fairly cheaply by the box. You can get the good flavours too (Rendang etc)

  • Ah the Coburg one is right around the corner from where I'm heading for gym this arvo, great timing, thanks :) Fingers crossed for stock…

2 Mi gorengs + 1 can of John West. Yum

      • +2

2 Mi gorengs + 1 can of John West is what got me through my early 20's. What I saved on paying for food I will probably pay for in health costs later down the track.

Once a week is okay. Just not everyday.

I think I bought it for approx $8.69 at Costco today.

This supermarket does not require membership. Win

    • When it comes to packaged noodles, Costco (of which I'm a member) doesn't have anywhere near the same range of flavours as KFL.

So if you're after some variety in your "carbs plus sachets of chemicals" concoctions, KFL probably comes out ahead. (That said… how good is CostCo?)

Just noticed that the Costco box is 30 packs (80gm) only, so this deal is a winner. Just ticked.

KFL have pretty awesome prices too. Rice noodles, sesame oil are cheap as, they have a reasonable selection of frozen yum cha too. A cheap, fast, easy meal is to make tom yum soup (from tom yum paste) with rice noodles (or Mi Goreng noodles) and a few dumplings dropped in. The one in Springvale has Frozen Smart upstairs for great frozen yum cha (dumplings, gyoza, prawn toast, chicken balls, pork buns, etc) and Pho Hung Vuong over the road for the best pho in Melbourne, possibly the world. I'm not over exaggerating, try it and tell me it isn't so.

    • I completely agree. Best pho ever.I go there every week. $9 for a very big regular.

But as dumb as he may appear, that guy's ab is ripped.

  • You guys can get a slightly better price in Laguna QV square for $9.50

  • Oh, I have heard and read sometimes ago that this Indo Mei goreng had been taken away from their stores by many South East Aisia countries health authorities such as Singapore, Malsysia and even Indonesia ( the main exporter). How come they are still on sale here in Melbourne? Yes they are known for their delicious spicy taste, but was reported containing too much of unhealthy ingredients. All my adult kids loved this Mei Goreng esp. my son in law but now they all stop taking it. So beware.

    • Not according to Wikipedia. It does however contain phenylalanine, MSG, tert-Butylhydroquinone (as preservative) and refined palm oil (pretty high in saturated fat). It's a sometimes food.

    • Haven't heard anything about taking them down the shelves in Indonesia.

Edit: from what I know is they are adding variety of flavours, such as mie goreng hijau (green mie goreng) and Bulgogi mie goreng for their fancier range

  • Its only $9.50 standard price at Laguna Supermarket at QV.

  • TBH I actually prefer SuperMi Mi Goreng, but there isn't as much variety in flavours and never go very cheap.

  • I can still remember at uni living in college, one of my mates had mi goreng straight out of the package with the sauce and powder sprinkled onto the dried noodles because the kettle wasn't working. I will never forget that o_o

I have often suspected that if you ate the powder raw you would either die in agony or be able to see through time

  • These look like the "local" types not the export quality ones. I've heard that they taste different and aren't of the same quality. Has anyone here done a comparison?
