What are my chances of getting my cash back?

Hey guys,

Applied for the low fee mastercard from the deal here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/134364, followed all the correct steps and applied with the $100 cash back offer being plastered all over the application page.

I have used it to purchase a couple of things and have yet to receive my $100 cash back from the campaign so I gave commbank a call.

The customer representative let me know that I supposedly applied on the 27th of February and the campaign began on the 1st of March so I will not be getting my cashback, however, I can see people on through the comments applying earlier than me and receiving their $100 cash back.

They have logged my conversation with them and now every other representative refers to the notes on my file and won't give me the $100 cash back referring exactly to what the first representative has put down.

Is there anything else I can do, or should I just close my account?

  • If there is evidence that Commbank honoured the cashback for other people who applied before the promotion start date then you may have a case ie: why them, not you?

    Maybe give the Dept of Fair Trading a call and get their opinion?

    • I suggest you contact Fair Trading too, you can open a dispute online with them if you prefer.

      You could contact Commbank again and say that if you get no satisfaction from that call, you will be filing a dispute.

        Don't know if that particular issue would be covered by financial ombudsman http://www.fos.org.au/ but worth a try.

          Before heading off to the FOS, try the CBA's group customer relations. These blokes are courteous and on the ball, probably the best out of Amex (fugging useless) and Citi (semi-useless) that I had to deal with:

          If it's just $100, they should have the authority to get that credited straight away.

    what do the t&cs say in regards to the promotion period?

  • Looked through the t&cs in the original post and there is nothing saying the 1st of march, but i don't really know how to argue with the representatives.

    Do you have a copy of your letter of offer laying about at home? Check to see what they say. Maybe upload them for us? Best of luck anyway.

    I come back with good news!

    I contacted customer relations as suggested by mini2 (Thanks!), pretty much typed what I typed in my original post and said I have been a customer for long time and am dissapointed. Got a call a day after which I missed. Called them 2 days after but no one picked up.

    Email came through this afternoon letting me know I'll be getting the $100 cash back within 5 days!

    • Good news to hear indeed! Hopefully others who took up this deal know they can do this if they also get jipped out of their cashback.
