Seeing as this is ozbargain i will give you the cheap option - i recently got this 4 camera system for $150 for my in-laws. Doesnt come with a hdd installed, but easy to add a spare one i had lying around. Is a bit of an effort to setup, but once done it records 24 hours a day to the hdd (1tb hdd holds over a month and then deletes the old video as required), and ive got an alert on it which will send an email to your phone with a little picture of the bad guy when it detects movement. Camera quality is good enough, and has IR for night time. Hide the pvr box somewhere any bad guys wouldnt find it, and just run the 18m cables through your walls/roof yourself to wherever you want the cams to be. Only power required is at the box - and it has a VGA monitor output if you want to monitor it (or alternativly connect via network to view from another pc/tablet/phone). Cheapest solution that covered our needs.
