I am bit confused about buying compatible memory for N54l , i figured out 2GB RAM came preinstalled is DDR3 PC3-10600, i ordered one from Amazon but it wasn't compatible.
So just wondering which RAM models i should go for ?
should i have to buy 2 X 8GB (for 2 slots) or i can buy one 8GB and that will work with 2GB(pre-installed)?

i tried it with and without 2GB stick , it failed both time
but what i figured out now is they sent me wrong RAM (pc3l-8500)

in short if they have sent me correct one it suppose to work right ?

The number one rule is that you cannot mix ECC and NON-ECC RAM.

i installed one of 2gb non ecc stick from desktop to N54l , it just worked fine …
it just disables ECC capability.(so both sticks works as non ECC)
Any recommendations for cheap ram to put into the N54L? Looking at upgrading mine to 8GB also, $190 is a bit out of my price range.

Been running in my n40l for 2 years 24/7 without issue
I've read that 16gb can be a bit temperamental but worth doing your own research.

N54L uses ECC RAM. The pair you ordered from Amazon — is that ECC as well?
